YOUR SOURCE FOR CUTTING EDGE NEW MUSIC

Happy Halloween!

Got your costumes ready?? I do! I'll give you a hint on mine. It's another Tim Burton/Johnny Depp character. Been doing Burton/Depp characters last couple years with Edward Scissorhands two years ago and Sweeney Todd last year. Thought I'd continue the tradition, at least till I run out of characters from them. Which might be a while cause they have so many, but that's fine by me as I love everything they do.

Anyways this year Halloween falls on Saturday which means Friday and Saturday are both gonna be pretty insane! In anticipation been downloading Halloween related/dark gothy tracks all day to sprinkle in my sets over the week-end. Thought I'd post a few of those to get you guys into the spirit.

Hope you enjoy them and have a great/safe Halloween week-end!!

Here's the beginning of one of favorite movies and another Tim Burton classic Nightmare Before Christmas. Just in case you ever wondered were holidays came from...

Florence & the Machine + The xx

The brand new The xx remix for Florence & the Machine's track 'You've Got The Love' is absolutely fantastic!!! The video is a perfect compliment to the mix along with glitter, gold, and disco fever inspired moves. Enjoy!!

Infusion

Australian electronic pop band Infusion recently contacted OTR and sent us over a copy of their latest album All Night Sunlight and I am digging it! Great stuff that runs the gamut from slower moodier tracks like 'So Soon' to full on dancier tracks.

In particular I'm digging the silky smooth 'Try it On', but 'So Soon' and the video game tinged '2 Player Game' complete with video game samples aren't too far behind.

Here are those for you in full 320! Right click/save as, you're ipod will thank you for it.

Hurts

Manchester's Hurts has been rapidly getting the attention of many music enthusiasts. Not sure how really, when they have probably the most irritating band name to Google. Anyhow, this mystery band has recently shed a little light on how. In fact, they are in the final stages with their album. With little known about the band, their single "Wonderful Life" really speaks for what they will bring to their audience: a lot of moody electro-pop!

*MP3 taken down by request from the artist.

Watch it come to life in this video which just screams Helmut Newton!

Sliimy

French artist Sliimy has been making a huge buzz this year opening up for mainstream stars like Britney Spears and Katy Perry on their European tours and signing up to be the first artist on Perez Hilton's new music label. His music is pretty darn catchy and irrisistably pop. He's like a mixture of Mika and Prince and looking a whole lot like a young Prince. The resemblance is pretty uncanny! Pretty sure this guy will become a huge mega star like the artists I mentioned very soon. His debut album Paint Your Face is out now.

Check out his video for 'Wake Up' a kaleidescope explosion of color and sound.

New Camera Obscura Video

I've been a fan of Scottish band Camera Obscura's whimsical, light, folky indie pop style for a long time now. They recently released this fun new video for the track 'The Sweetest Thing' from their album My Maudlin Career that came out last Spring. Thought its costume party theme was perfect for getting us ready for Halloween!

Two Door Cinema Club + French Horn Rebellion

Two Door Cinema Club, an upbeat electro-pop trio from Northern Ireland, has been gaining momentum throughout Ireland and the UK over the last year or so. Now with the approaching release of their debut LP at the beginning of 2010, they're poised to come on strong on this side of the Atlantic as well.

They will be releasing their catchy new single 'I Can Talk' next month. In the meantime, I stumbled upon this great, quirky and dance floor ready remix of the song from Brooklyn's always awesome French Horn Rebellion! Enjoy!

Neon Indian

Kinda kicking myself right now for not being able to see Brooklyn/Austin based artist Neon Indian who performed last Thursday here in Miami at Rokbar on the Beach, but unfortunately duty called. Got a last minute call to work at Vagabond for Shake's 1 Year Annv, so couldn't make it even though his rep had put me on the guest list. Hate when that happens, but what can you do money trumps fun most of the time.

Anyways Neon Indian puts out great nostalgic sounding lo-fi electronic pop that gets into your subconscious. Kinda gives me the vibe of bands like M83 except more on the minimal side. Really digging their album 'Psychic Chasms' that came out earlier this month.

Check out these three tracks and see if you agree...

MP3: Deadbeat Summer - Neon Indian

MP3: Terminally Chill - Neon Indian

MP3: 6669 (I don't know if you know) - Neon Indian

Don't think they've put out a video yet, but here's an 'un-official' fan video for the track 'Terminally Chill' that is pretty sweet! Matches the music perfectly.

Fenech Soler

Digging the new single/video for 'Lies' by young UK band Fenech Soler. They show a lot of promise, even though the vocals in the beginning remind me a bit of Coldplay's Chris Martin. We'll see where the rest of the album takes us. Their debut record also titled 'Lies' is scheduled for release in November.

Here is the video plus a hyper-active housey remix by French artist The Phantom's Revenge.

* Brought down the 'Lies' mp3 by request from the band's reps.

Junior Boys Tour + Remix

We here in Miami are all super excited for Junior Boys this Saturday at The Vagabond! If you are in Miami, this is a must! Hear they are amazing live! Also heard that Jeremy Greenspan and Matthew Didemus of Junior Boys are big fans of Halloween, and due to the proximity to the holiday, have been encouraging fans to dress in their Halloween best. Guess they've been giving out free stuff (like CD's and T-shirts) to best costume!!

Want more exciting news? Well, looks like the duo will be releasing a new single in the not-so-distant future! This new single will include remixes by Prins Thomas and Modeselektor of their songs 'Work' and 'Bits and Pieces' from their latest album Begone Dull Care. Furthermore, keep your eyes out for an upcoming new video for 'Bits and Pieces' directed by the visual collaborator of Final Fantasy, Stephanie Comilang!

As a preview, we've got the hot Prins Thomas remix of 'Work' for your listening pleasure and to get you pumped up for the concert!

The Black Heart Procession

San Diego's The Black Heart Procession is darker and gloomier than most of the stuff I usually post on OTR, but I've been a fan of theirs for years and their new album 'Six' continues their tradition of melancholia that they do so well. A great album to listen to as the sun descends and night takes hold. That voice of his is pretty intense and unmistakeable. Let your black heart be taken in. A welcome relief and change of pace from the poppier electronic stuff of the day.

Air::Love 2

Can you ever go wrong with Air? The answer is nope, never! Loving their new album 'Love 2' like everything thing they've ever done. They're consistent in making some of the most amazing electronic bleeps and bloops ever recorded. Electronic pop music at it's best.

Here's their video for 'Sing Sang Sung' plus a couple of my favorites from the album 'So Light is Her Footfall' + 'Missing the Light of the Day', but you should get the whole thing. Like always some of the best late night/making out music the world has to offer.

Felix Da Housecat

Late on this one, but I got the new Felix Da Housecat album 'He Was King' the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. This guy's been rocking it since before the days of electroclash when I first heard about him and he has since outlived that genre and continues making bad ass electronic dance music and DJ'ing all over the world.

His first single from the album is a tribute to the one and only Prince appropriately titled 'We All Wanna Be Prince' complete with a video were he adorns the purple ones famous 80's looks. Plus a cameo from Perez Hilton and club kids/random people from his travels.

Here is that track/video plus a couple of my favorites from the album. You can get a couple remixes I posted earlier for 'We All Wanna Be Prince' here and here. You can sample the rest of the album/buy it here

Ali Love

London solo artist Ali Love who previously contributed vocals to Chemical Brothers track 'Do It Again' is getting set to release his debut album early next year, but first his reps contacted OTR with an advance copy of his first single 'Diminishing Returns' complete with remixes + video to share with our readers and I'm glad they did!

Like they say on his press material it's 'a brilliant, instant Italo-disco inspired classic'. I have to agree with that statement! Great mid-tempop groovy number! Should get you shaking it on the dancefloor. Loving it! Can't wait to hear the album.

Here's those tracks for you in full 320! 'Diminishing Returns' is out on Limited Edition Vinyl/Digital Download November the 16th on his label Back Yard Records.

The Plastics Revolution

The Plastics Revolution are a Mexican band who recently contacted us. They sent us over a few tracks/videos and we were mightily impressed! They sing in spanish and english which is a pretty good advantage, two different markets for them to conquer.

They put out catchy, poppy, indie rock that sticks in your head. Particularly their track 'So They Wait'. It has a whistle in it that reminds me a bit of Peter Bjorn & John's monster hit 'Young Folks' and just about as catchy!

Be sure to also check out their video for 'Ahora Somos Parte' on their myspace link above. Pretty amazing vid/track as well. Think these guys have a bright future ahead of them.

New Little Boots Video + Treasure Fingers Remix

UK's Little Boots formerly of Dead Disco just released her new video for 'Earthquake' off her debut album 'Hands' which has yet to see the light of day in the States. Thank God for the internet! Pretty cool track/vid!

Also got this sweet Treasure Fingers Remix of the track that's a disco-e dancefloor version of it. Only seen on one other blog on Hype Machine so far too! Enjoy!

Cate Le Bon

Maybe you can recall Cate Le Bon's role in NEON NEON's single 'I Lust You,' which Ray previously posted, but behold her debut album Me Oh My. Sure it might have taken some time to complete, but when Super Furry Animal's Gruff Rhys is backing you up with a label basically dedicated to you, there's time to spare for a deserving musician.

There's something adorning when you know a musician, like Cate Le Bon, writes her music in the dark, is a woman who may carry flattering comparisons, but is a woman who can still hold her own. What I'm trying to get at is basically, when anyone who listens to your album, compares you to the great idols, songs, and albums of the past, you're probably what we need in the now.

Julian Casablancas

Julian Casablancas frontman for The Strokes is getting ready to drop his debut solo record 'Phrazes for the Young' Nov the 3rd in the States, Nov 2nd in Europe. The first single from the album '11th Dimension' is pretty sweet! Uber catchy and fun single! Much for synth laden than I'm used to hearing from The Strokes. Don't know how the rest of the album will be, but I hope it goes somewhere in the direction of this single. Why do a solo album that is exactly like your main band anyways right? Never understood why some artists do that.

Anyways here is that plus a little Q & A I found with him on youtube. No video yet, but I'm sure it will be a good one when they finally release that. Seems they are also working on a New Strokes record as we speak. Scheduled for a 2010 release. 2010's shaping up to be another great year for music!

Tigers That Talked

Tigers That Talked, a quartet hailing from Leeds, England, recently released a wonderful new video for their new indie pop ballad 'Artificial Clouds.' The band, who have a fantastic collection of definitely audible influences from the likes of Arcade Fire to The Cure, create their own unique sound centered around lead singer Jamie William's vocals and instrumentation dominated by Glenna Larson's haunting violin.

This new single is from their upcoming album The Merchant which is to be released sometime next year. Also thought I'd include their great previous single 'Black Heart Blue Eyes'.

Mailbag::Manic Monday Edition

Weeeew the week-end is finally over! It was a great and memorable one! From chatting/having DJ Craze jamming to my set Friday at The Vagabond. To power outage/impromptu BFGF performance on top of her car in the street Saturday whilst I hung out/smoked w/Otto Von Shirach. To finally Sunday's glowstick breakdown with me and some buddies resurrecting the back room at Purdy from our drunken antics alone. Great energy and great fun, but it surely wears you out (all the alcohol doesn't help either). So glad it's Monday! Not too many people like Monday's as much as me, except possibly other DJ's who feel my plight. :)

Anyway's it's time again for an Off the Radar Mailbag! Have to say the submissions we've been getting lately have been pretty impressive! Tons of great music being sent our way from all over the world and all types of styles. From Indie Rock, Pop to Electro, House, Remixes & beyond! Pretty amazing stuff and all free and clear to be shared with our readers. Keep'em coming! Send mp3's/videos to offtheradarmiami@gmail.com for consideration for a Mailbag or a Feature.

These tracks are the cream of the crop singles sent our way. All OTR approved! Hope you like'em as much as I do.

There's lots of them so you're gonna have to do some google myspace/website look-ups on your own if you dig them.

Cheers!

uberLAB

Los Angeles based solo electronic artist uberLAB sent us over a copy of his brand new album entitled uberwunder that has just been released on itunes as well as amazon and it is a pretty spectacular voyage!

Beautiful  instrumental electronic music that he perfectly describes on his myspace as 'the pure & joyous emotion a child experiences when he/she sees or experiences something amazing for the first time. (Think of your first visit to Disneyland, or your first sight of snow)'.  That's pretty much the same feeling I get when listening to most of this album. Pure, simple and magical electronic music.

He also hits the nail on the head as he describes the sound as 'an intergalactic space voyage in a child's mind'. That just about sums it up perfectly!

Check out these 3 excellent tracks and see if you agree with those comparisons.

Small Black

Recently came across the Brooklyn based band Small Black and am totally captivated by them! They are lo-fi indie rock at its finest. One of those bands that makes you wanna just lie down, tune out the world and saturate yourself in their melancholy wall of sound created by a brilliant blend of stormy distortion, hacked up beats, static filled guitars, heavy, fuzzy synths and foggy vocals.

Currently obsessed with tracks 'Weird Machines' and 'Bad Lover!' Also, recent dreamwave greats Washed Out have taken on Small Black's track 'Despicable Dogs' resulting in a gorgeous mix that is absolute genius! They will be dropping their new self titled EP on October 13th and it's gonna be a great one!

Relation

England has once again produced electro pop genius!

Relation are an Electronic duo from Essex, United Kingdom. The band released their debut album Fear of Night on the Urban Torque label on August 31st, 2009.

I haven’t heard anything this polished and true to its nature in a very long time. This album is a must for fans of New Order and Depeche Mode. I’ve been waiting for an album like this since the disappointment of Electronic’s second offering.

Here is the video for their first single Your Tiny Mind and an mp3 of their magnificent cover of the Pixies' Here Comes Your Man.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I am!

Check out their myspace to hear more songs.
