New Yeah Yeah Yeahs Video!

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs album It's Blitz thoroughly entertained us all in 2009, being featured in our own Best Albums list as well as our Top Videos list with their spectacular vid for "Heads Will Roll." Now, in early 2010, the album provides us with a brand new video for the track "Skeletons" and it is amazing! It is a dark and ghostly masterpiece creating a perfect visual for this gorgeous track.

Von Haze

Need some new minimal psychedelic rock in your lives? Then be sure to check out Brooklyn duo Von Haze!

Got sent their 6 track self titled EP the other day and I am loving it! Minimal, dark psychedelia a la bands like xx and such. Really great stuff! Seems they are already creating a buzz in NYC with people in the know, so get into them before everyone is on the bandwagon.

Here are a couple tracks that have been cleared for posting. The excellent 7 and a half minute scorcher 'Sooner or Later' and their latest acid tinged single 'Sad Girls'. Both amazing tracks!

In addition here is their trippy video for 'Looking Down' also from the EP and also really good!

Dragonette

Loving this remix for Dragonette's 'Pick Up the Phone' by one of the guys from Van She. While I was looking for a pic to post from her I noticed she has a video for Pick Up the Phone that I hadn't seen before. Maybe you guys haven't either? Here is that where she is wreaking havoc at a high school and looking damn good at it! Apparently she's on Tour in the US with Little Boots. Another great little show to check out. Check her myspace link above to see if she's making a stop near you.

Raw Thrills

We all can use some fun on a hump day like today. So why not check out Zak Mering's (Silent Talk) new project Raw Thrills. Talk about a party in a MP3! Maybe we all should learn a lesson from Raw Thrill's handbook, and wink at ourselves in the mirror as we get ready for the day. Especially with a song like this one, it will make any one's work day fly by. ENJOY!

MP3: Why Can't I Say Let Go - Raw Thrills

P.S. LOVE this video.

Hot Chip Returns!

Does anybody NOT have the new Hot Chip record One Life Stand?? If there's ever been a sign that release dates don't mean that much anymore and leaks are rampant it's this release from Hot Chip. Can't even tell you how many people I've seen post on Twitter/Facebook how they already have the new Hot Chip record for weeks already. The only positive is that everyone who's posted that usually posts something like how much they love the new Hot Chip record!!!! So I guess that's one positive from it. The praise seems pretty unanimous.

I'm loving it too! It's probably their best since their debut The Warning. This one has a bunch of slower tracks which I'm really digging. It's 'officially' released Feb the 9th at which point I think people will be bored of it so wanted to post this before it's too late! Just kidding, little chance people will get bored of this too quickly. I'm sure it will be on people's minds all year long with singles and remixes keeping us entertained throughout.

Seems Hot Chip will be doing a little North American Tour with the xx opening up for them! That's a nice one! Here are those tour dates. Obviosuly if your in those areas run to get these tickets.

04-16 Oakland, CA - Fox Theater
04-19 Chicago, IL - Riviera Theatre
04-20 Toronto, Ontario - Koolhaus
04-22 New York, NY - Terminal 5
04-24 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club

Here's a couple of my favorite tracks from the new album, but it was hard to pick, they're all pretty ace! If you didn't already see the video for first single 'One Life Stand' I posted it previously here.

Dan Black

Dan Black is an English artist based in Paris, France making a splash in 09/10 with his album Un being released in the States on Feb the 16th.  He recently performed a short 20 min set here in Miami Beach at Liv where I read the fanfare was not so great with the crowd more interested in bottles and models typical at most South Beach venues here. Apparently at one point during his set the Miami New Times says he called out "You will be bored with me by the end of the year, so enjoy this moment when you don't know who I am." Pretty ballsy stuff.

Anyways I got sent his video for his track 'Symphonies' and I am digging it. All types of styles in this video. Love the strings! Reminds me a bit of 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve.

STAYGOLD

STAYGOLD are a duo from the amazing pop land of Stockholm, Sweden. Recently a friend Lex posted a track from them on Facebook called 'Backseat' featuring Spank Rock and Damien Adore and it is a pop winner! About as catchy a track as you can get. It's got some pop, funk and hip hop elements all rolled into one. Been jamming it in my car the last few days.

Here is the mp3 plus a Live Performance of the track I saw on their myspace at an awards show seems like. Spank Rock does his part live as well as a cameo by Robyn. Pretty sweet.

Backseat (Ft Spank Rock and Damien Adore) - STAYGOLD

*** Per STAYGOLD's labels request (Magnetron) we have taken down download link for 'Backseat', but you can still stream it. They will be keeping us up to date with future releases/remixes, etc.

The Antlers + Buffetlibre

In 2009, Brooklyn indie band The Antlers made waves with their heavy-hearted album Hospice. So you might say Spanish remix geniuses Buffetlibre were taking quite a risk taking on the albums hit single "Two" with such dark and dreary subject matter with intent on turning it into a danceable electronic track. The risk, however, paid off, resulting in a wonderful synth filled anthem that maintains the integrity of the original. The Antlers with a dance floor makeover, who would have thought?

MP3: Two (Buffetlibre Remix) - The Antlers

SPEAK

SPEAK are an indie pop band from Austin, Texas. Seems they are getting set to release their Debut EP Hear Here February the 9th on Playing in Traffic Records.

Recently came across their track 'Carrie (Mindfull)' and I am loving it! Ultra catchy indie pop number that caught my attention. Can't wait to hear more. The chorus is my favorite part. I'm a sucker for a good chorus.

'Carrrrrie I trust you to get on alone, lateely I find when your out on your own.'

MP3: Carrie (Mindfull) - SPEAK

LIVE WVUM Off the Radar DJ Set

Hey peeps gonna be doing a Live Off the Radar DJ Set on WVUM 90.5 this Tuesday, January 26th for the Electric Kingdom Show w/Amber from 7-9 PM EST. If you're in Miami you can hear it live on the radio on 90.5 FM, if not you can stream the show online via their website here, wherever you may be. I was actually in there about a month or 2 ago, but the set was accidentally not recorded. Hope we can get it right this time. I'll try to post the mix on OTR after I get a copy of it as well. Hope you can tune in!

I Ain't Hiding

So here I am in Spain. Sorry I haven't posted anything since getting here, but the internet networks in this part of the island are not very good or fast.

Anyway with that being said, I wanted to share something with you that you probably haven't heard outside of The Vagabond. It's a great disco/funk/rock track by the one and only Black Crows. Yeah I know... The Black Crows you say? Yes I do!

Check it out and enjoy... I hope to have better internet in the coming weeks and months so I could share a few new tracks with you.

Peace.

Waste of Time Mix

Hey readers, long time no post. I'm back with another one of my mixes. Nothing too ground breaking here (even a few older tracks), but it should keep your heart going. I threw in a new Hot Chip track for good measure even though that Jacob Korn track before it should be played in it's entirety.

And yes that's the P. Diddy adding his vocals to the DJ Hell track (here is beef between Hell and the Diddy camp - faced by Felix the Housecat. Read more about it here.)

What else...

I really like how the Hostage track and the Laidback Luke/Diplo track go back and forth in the mix. Parov Stelar created his own type of house music I like to refer to as "steampunk" house. And speaking of house music, I'm glad some 90's house is getting the respect is deserves like Jaydee's Plastic Dreams. I get a little bit minimal (not even that much really) in the middle of the mix, but hopefully not boring. And check out Luke Vibert's album, it's full of fun experimental dance music.

Waste of Time Mix - 56 Mins

The All Seeing I - 1st Man In Space
Parov Selar - Catgroove

New Video from The xx

The latest single from The xx titled 'VCR', off of their much loved self titled debut album, now has an excellent new video to accompany it! The video, directed by Marcus Söderlund, perfectly embodies this melancholy masterpiece of apathetic young love. Also, if you are looking for something a little more upbeat than the somewhat somber and minimal original, Matthew Dear has an excellent reinterpretation of this track completely changing the feel of the song and adding a little warmth and funk. I highly recommend adding both versions to your music collection, but only after you enjoy this fantastic video!

Miami Horror + Gloves

Known about this new Miami Horror track/video 'Sometimes' for a bit now, but for some reason never got around to posting it. The other day I found a sweet disco flavored Gloves remix with added female vocals so I figured now would be the perfect time for a post. A great dreamwave track from this Australian artist that Danny has written about before and a perfect track to kick off your week-end! Both versions are killer! Warning the video may make you crave the summer, especially if you don't live in a warm place like Miami. Have a good one!

MP3: Sometimes (Gloves Remix) - Miami Horror

Findlay Brown

Just like the sounds of days gone by Findlay Brown from the UK captures the spirit of the 50's with this heart warming video for 'Love Will Find You'. Not the kind of stuff we usually post, but it's such a good tune I couldn't resist. The album was produced by the amazing Bernard Butler of Suede fame.

Kings of Convenience 'Live Performance'

Saw this great intimate acoustic performance of Kings of Convenience in Paris that a friend posted on Facebook. It's so good thought I'd share. Be sure to check out the great audience involved cover of 'Free Falling' by Tom Petty around the middle were they move to another room, plus Erlend Oye's great vocal horn work. Must have been amazing to be there live.

Atlas Sound + CRACKS

Parisian duo CRACKS has taken on Atlas Sound's track 'Shelia' off their album Logos, giving it a self proclaimed,"last tune on the dance floor" feel. Loving the combo of dreamy melodies with some 8-bit sounds and some pretty heavy electro beats. Don't know too much about CRACKS as their Myspace is void of information, but this remix is definitely rad, so hopefully they keep them coming!

MP3: Shelia (CRACKS remix) - Atlas Sound

New Fischerspooner Video

Eccentric electronic band Fischerspooner recently released a brand new video for track 'The Best Revenge' from their most recent album Entertainment. The video, which is pretty much a glam kaleidoscope of well choreographed dancers, was premiered on January 8th in the Hayden Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History.

Gorillaz Return!

So our favorite animated band Gorillaz are set to return in 2010 with Plastic Beach! Seems they are gonna be headlining Coachella on the last night also. Which means they will be the last thing you remember when your walking out of the park. Pretty sweet! The headliners this year (minus this one) aren't as good as I would have liked, but this year it's all about the smaller indie bands which there are tons of. Tempting me to go back to this far away desert for the first time since 2004.

Anyways seems Gorillaz have (intentionally?) leaked the first single from the album called 'Stylo' and featuring Bobby Womack and Mos Def. It's pretty brilliant track having an old school 70's disco/funk type of vibe which makes me crave the album which will be released March 9th. Can't imagine what these creative minds have in store for us. One thing's for sure like the previous two albums it's sure to be a huge hit! Damon Albarn can do no wrong. Expect tons of remixes, plus creative videos for this all year long. 2010 is off with a bang!

Here is 'Stylo' plus the album tracklisting.

Clubfeet

Clubfeet are a trio also from Australia, Victoria to be precise. You may remember that great track they had last year 'Teenage Suicide'.  They recently released a new video for their great down-tempo track 'Count Your Lovers' with this great looking girl dancing around with vintage effects galore. Doesn't take much more than that to make a good video.

Here is that plus a Kap 10 Kurt Remix for 'Teenage Suicide' that I don't think I ever posted, but got a lot of plays from me on the dancefloor in 09'.

MP3: Teenage Suicide (Kap10Kurt Remix) - Clubfeet

Teenagersintokyo

Teenagersintokyo from Sydney, Australia are getting set to release new single 'Peter Pan' March the 1st with a full album scheduled for release sometime in the spring. In support they've put out this great video for the track, plus this sweet electronic Horrors vocoder remix that I wasn't expecting from a band like them known more for their rock sound. Dig that they can do both. It's never good to get pigeonholed as an artist. Here they are for your listening/dl pleasure...

Enjoy!

The Magnetic Fields Return!

If you're like me, you probably grew up listening to The Magnetic Fields 1999 3 disc masterpiece 69 Love Songs. One of the most amazing collections of original songs ever put together. I mean how audacious 69 songs on 3 CD's and it didn't suck? That isn't too easy to do, believe me. The songs are as witty, beautiful and memorable as you can get for a collection that long. There aren't too many artists that would take a risk like that and it paid off for them. It's a classic that I highly recommend and still listen to on occasion to this day. Unfortunately after 69 Love Songs I kinda faded out of Magnetic Fields. Don't know why, just kinda happened. Maybe it was too hard to live up to the genious of 69 Love Songs? Not sure.

Anyways, last week I got the upcoming new album from Magnetic Fields titled Realism being released next Tuesday, January the 26th and right away it struck a chord with me. Reminded me of why I loved Magnetic Fields so much in the first place. Almost 10 yrs to the date of 69's release, the album is a great collection and classic Magnetic Fields. Just as good as anything featured on 69. If you loved that album you will adore this new one as well!

Apparently it's a sister record to 2008's Distortion which I can't remember if I listened to or not, but may have to go re-check now. He was gonna release both these records one being called True and one False, but he couldn't figure out which one would be called what. Ha, sounds like something that I would totally expect from the amazing Stephin Merritt. One thing is for sure his voice is as unique as they come. I just love the deep metallic texture of his voice that is completely unique in the world of music. The songs are short and sweet, most clocking in between 2 and 3 mins and his mind is still as sharp as a tack putting out amazing lyrics all these years into his career. Like one of my faves from album opener 'You Must Be Out of Your Mind' were he exclaims '..and I no longer drink enough to think you're witty'. The female vocalist which is also the same one he's been working with for years is still sounding as beautiful as ever and provides a good counterpoint to his deep voice. Keeps the record from getting too monotonous.

Here are a couple of my favorites. A really great album and a welcome return to form for The Magnetic Fields! Hooray! Forgot how much I missed them in my life.

Spoon Returns!

So I got a bunch of albums yesterday from Hot Chip, Magnetic Fields and Spoon. Since Spoon is the first one to be released next Tuesday (1/19) I'm gonna start off with them.

First off I wanna say Spoon is one of the most consistent indie bands of our era. Kill the Moonlight and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga are a couple of amazing records from them that I grew up listening to particularly Kill the Moonlight and some of the best music this decade had to offer. Britt Daniel's voice is unmistakeable and always achingly lovely.

Their latest album is lucky number seven and is called Transference. It is the first one were they produced it themselves. Upon first listens it is classic Spoon. Nothing too revolutionary, but if you like Spoon you will most certainly dig this. Like most great records it will probably take repeated listens to fully appreciate it and have it grow on you. I have a feeling this will be one of those. Unfortunately the copy I got is a crappy 128kbps version, but it's still enough to tell it's a solid album. With some tracks they go off on tangents experimenting a bit, but in the end it always comes back to sounding like classic them.

My initial favorites are the slow jam 'Out Go the Lights', the short but sweet 'Is Love Forever?', 'I Saw the Light', 'Mystery Zone', 'Written in Reverse' and 'Who Makes Your Money'.

Here are a couple of those for you to sample, but be sure to pick this baby up next week when it's released in a better quality version. I know I will.

MP3: Out Go the Lights - Spoon
MP3: Who Makes Your Money - Spoon

*** Unfortunately the artist and their label Merge have asked us to take down these two tracks, but they have allowed us to post the single 'Written in Reverse', plus this link were you can stream the entire album on NPR until it's released! Not a bad trade-off. Here they are. Enjoy!

MP3: Written in Reverse - Spoon

1. Before Destruction
2. Is Love Forever?
3. The Mystery Zone
4. Who Makes Your Money
5. Written In Reverse
6. I Saw The Light
7. Trouble Comes Running
8. Goodnight Laura
9. Out Go The Lights
10. Got Nuffin
11. Nobody Gets Me But You

The Diogenes Club

The Diogenes Club is an electronic pop duo from the UK. Recently they sent us their excellent new video for 'Tie Ourselves Around' from their forthcoming EP 979 being released February 22nd on Urban Torque recordings and I am loving it! Amazingly beautiful video/track!

Here is that plus a track off their previous EP Do You know How I Feel? called 'The Ageless'. Also an excellent mid-tempo electro-pop track! Glad I found out about these guys, think you guys will be pretty psyched too.

MP3: The Ageless - The Diogenes Club

Elektro-boy

Another Canadian artist/remixer that recently got our attention is Elektro-boy from Montreal/Quebec. Last week he sent us three excellent remixes guaranteed to get dancefloor's riled up.

Whilst listening to my iTunes on random the other day each time his remixes came up I had to do a double take to see who it was and lo and behold all three times it was Elektro-boy. Hmmm, that's gotta be a good sign. This guy's got an amazing ear and great dancefloor sensibilities. He knows which buttons to push to make you dance. Just see for yourselves. I'd keep my eye on this one! As far as I can tell hardly nothing from him on Hype Machine yet, so we're one of the first.

Memoryhouse

Memoryhouse are a duo from Ontario, Canada comprising of Denise on vocals and Evan instruments/production.

Recently they sent us a copy of their 4 Track EP The Years and it is some beautiful stuff. Airy minimal atmospheric music to transport your mind to far away places.

Here are a couple tracks from it 'To the Lighthouse' which has an accompanying video for it and 'Lately (Deuxième)'. If you like these you can download the entire EP for Free on their Myspace link above were they also have a great Grizzly Bear cover for 'Foreground' on their player. Don't you just love free music, especially when it's this good! They promise more music in the works, can't wait!

The Watermarks

The Watermarks from Houston, Texas recently sent us their new EP titled 'Thoughts Like Bombs' for review and I am thoroughly impressed! Great catchy, dancey indie rock. Love the lead singer's voice!

Initially my favorites are 'Only Rains on You', 'I Used to be Your Rock N' Roll' and 'No Answer' which I'm gonna post here for you guys to check out, but that may change as there's not a bad one in the entire 7 track EP. If you dig these you can download the whole EP for Free on their website.  It's good stuff though, so maybe you can send them a little donation. Like they say on their site even a buck or two helps.

The Polyamorous Affair

L.A.'s The Polyamorous Affair's new video "New York City" might be something we've all seen plenty of times. Still, the husband and wife duo make a seductive attempt with both the song and video. With lyrics made for a heartbroken love song, it's only charming that they both reunite in the haunting Chelsea Hotel. The Polyamorous Affair are currently preparing for their European tour and finishing touches on their third album "Strange Bedfellows".

Jesp Exclusive Video Premiere

Miami artist and friend Jesp (aka Joseph Espinoza) recently released his debut album Heart Rhythm. Joseph is a Miami native influenced by the Miami music scene from Freestyle to Pop, Rock and more. He is Berklee trained as well as lead singer of Miami band Outereach until he decided to take a stab at a solo career.

He's been making quite a buzz around town lately playing at many hot spots/events around town including The Vagabond and Gen Art's Vanguard event for Art Basel this past December were he performed on top of the roof overlooking the 1000+ people in attendance.

Recently he put the finishing touches on his first music video for 'Rising Sun' directed by Fro Rojas and asked us if we would premiere it on OTR. Of course we had to oblige. With no further ado here is the world premiere of Jesp's Music Video for 'Rising Sun' plus a couple mp3's to get you acquainted with his music. If you like what you hear, you can purchase the 10 track album on Itunes/Amazon now.

Fizzy Dino Pop

Not gonna lie, I've kinda got a weakness for that 80's futuristic, 8-bit, Nintendo-esque, synth-pop sound, and Austin duo Fizzy Dino Pop has really nailed it! When it comes to their music, "fizzy" is definitely the operative word. They create bubbly, upbeat, feel good, space electro pop that makes it pretty much impossible not to find yourself moving around to! Fizzy Dino Pop has recently released a free digital single for their fun and highly likable track 'Hello Party!', which I can very easily see becoming one of the hottest indie dance party tracks of early '10! Kinda hoping this is the direction electronic music takes in the future. Love it!

New Islands Video

Montreal's Islands has a brand new video out for their catchy track 'No You Don't' off their Vapours album starring none other than Super Bad's Michael Cera! The highly entertaining vid is shot like a 1990's anti-drug educational video and pretty much consists of Cera taking some trippy drugs and running around freaking out. Always fun to see these actor/indie band collaborations!

MP3: No You Don't - Islands

New Young Pony Club

Did you miss New Young Pony Club?? I sure did, especially after watching their new video/single for 'Lost a Girl' off their forthcoming sophmore album The Optimist coming out in February. Sooo good! They seem to have a bit more of an indie band feel with this new one, but I'll wait to hear the whole album before I make any assumptions. Can't wait for it to come out! You can download the radio edit of the song in full 320 off their website for free or if you're lazy just download it straight from us below. We like doing the work for you.

The Knife / Mt. Sims / Planningtorock

New music by The Knife and the world rejoices! Incredible how big The Knife is nowadays that just today they release a new track 'Colouring of Pigeons' off their forthcoming opera album called 'Tomorrow, In a Year' to be released March 1st, 2010 and it has swamped Hype Machine! How could you not hear about it. There's over 20 posts about it today alone and sure tons more to follow. Pretty incredible!

Seems the project is a collaborative effort with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock based on Charles Darwin's 'Origin of the Species' and just as you would expect it is brilliant! Coming in at 11 mins long and actually having some operatic moments and amazing experimental sounds. These guys are just on top of their game. Go to The Knife's site here to read more about the project.

Here is 'Colouring of Pieces' that they are giving away to those who sign up to their mailing list, plus the album tracklisting.

Enjoy, I sure as heck am!

Marina & the Diamonds

One of my favorite artists Marina & the Diamonds who I first wrote about almost exactly 1 year ago is getting set to release her debut album The Family Jewels a play on her EP name The Crown Jewels in February! So excited to hear the record! Everything I've heard from her is just golden. Have a feeling 2010 will be huge for this beautiful/talented lady.

Her first single from the album is 'Hollywood' which she's done this great video for about what else? People's obsession with American celebrity culture of course. She looks skinnier/hotter in the new video. Think someone's been working out and looking good!

Here's the video plus a remix for an earlier track 'Mowgli's Road' remixed by the amazing Russ Chimes and the album tracklisting. Enjoy and god luck Marina we're rooting for you!

Van She

More cowbell, I mean Van She!! Can't get enough of Van She's cover of the classic Blue Oyster Cult rock track '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' that was featured in that funny SNL skit with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken all those years ago.

This cover reminds me of how amazing Van She can be. Here's to hoping this a return to the classic Van She that we feel in love with when they first released 'Kelly'.  Which by the way it seems they may be releasing some new remixes for soon.

Props to Bacardi for putting out these comps. You don't usually expect such great music on a corporate liquor sponsored compilation, but this is good stuff. Holy Ghost did a remix of this Van She version for it as well, but this cover by Van She is were it's at in my opinion.

MP3: (Don't Fear) The Reaper - Van She
