Les Sins :: Taken + Fetch
Les Sins is Toro Y Moi's side project, and it's sounding really good. Two singles, "Taken" and "Fetch" are set for release in late August / early September on Dan Snaith's (Caribou) Jiaolong label. Excited?
High Places & David Scott Stone :: All the Days Blur Together, & More
I recently got into a great duo that had slipped my radar over the past year. High Places, originally from Brooklyn, now based out of L.A. has really mastered a phenomenal space pop sound with perfect dosages of future dub and garagie basslines layered throughout most of their tracks. I first was introduced to High Places through "All the Days Blur Together," a single that they got together with David Scott Stone (LCD Soundsystem) and released close to a year ago. The song has climbed almost as fast as any track ever has up my iTunes "number of plays" list. I'm not sure whether it is the alluring sound of the vocals that pull me in, or if it's the perfect tempo and energy with just the right amount of placidity that allows for the track to be left on repeat. Definitely keeping High Places in my rotation, and looking forward to new releases. Enjoy!
Astronauts, etc :: Supermelodic Pulp
In keeping with the dream pop of today got sent another couple great tracks "Mystery Colors" and "You Can Yell" from Berkeley educated Astronauts, etc. His debut EP 'Supermelodic Pulp' is scheduled for release September the 8th and if these two tracks are any indication we are in for a treat. Check out the goods below, both free for the taking as well as his video for "Mystery Colors", then keep an eye out for the EP when it's released in a couple of weeks.

Picobots :: Melanie Griffith
If you follow OTR regularly you know how much we love those 80's new wave inspired tunes. Cue San Francisco artist Picobots who recently sent us his latest release 'Melanie Griffith'. A 5 track EP that features just that, lo-fi dreamy atmospheric goodness that sounds like it could have come straight from the 80's. His first single/video from the release is "Mini Blind Silhoutte" which is an homage to LA that you can check out below. If you like what you hear head on over to his bandcamp where the entire release is available as a name your own price option including $0, but if you can, throw him a few bucks. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

MAU :: Think of Tomorrow (Remix)
Let's keep today's theme of remixes going... Here is an another excellent remix sent our way by Portugal band MAU that we've posted about a few times before, most recently here. This time they've given the remix treatment to LA duo Leitbur's track "Think of Tomorrow" and they've done a fabulous job! Groovy dreamwave goodness that I can hear over and over. Check it out/grab that baby below. It's another freebie! Score!
Leitbur - Think of Tomorrow (MAU REMIX) by M.A.U.
Chris Carter :: Angels (Remix)
Keep them XX remixes coming! Here's one sent our way from Chris Carter from the band Jump Jump Dance Dance. He did an excellent job remixing "Angels" into more of a dance friendly groove so us DJ's can play this baby out on the dance floor. Thank you for that! Check it out below and if you like what you hear it's free for the taking. Spread the love...

NoteOn
Had a couple of uber lazy days for Tropical Strom Isaac. In fact I think most of South Florida did. Not losing power during a storm is a welcome treat. Wasn't used to that. The power in my old apt. would leave even if there was a strong breeze, haha. Anyways I hope the storm doesn't do too much damage to the people in New Orleans, lord knows they've been through enough.
Now let's get back to the music!
Got sent this really cool remix/reboot of "The Witch" by Irish producer NoteOn for a little known French artist Dombrance. I'm not sure what the original sounded like, but this rework is beautiful synth dance goodness. Can't wait to play this baby out in my DJ sets. I'm sure it will fit in nicely. Check it out below and if you like what you hear it's free for the taking. Check out more of NoteOn's remixes on his soundcloud.

Lee M Kelsall :: NY Shuffle, (Remixes) & More
Not getting nearly the attention he deserves Stateside, English born and Australian raised producer Lee M Kelsall is back with "NY Shuffle," his latest release on NYC based Nurvous Records. A great summer release that would have you wanting to be lost in that desultory fast-paced New York style summer life, regardless of the city's reference in it's name. Accompanied by first-rate remixes from Raffa FL and Kreature there is something for everyone. Also included is Lee M Kelsall original "Gimme," which emerging South East London deep house duo Clouded Judgement brilliantly molded into a banger of a dance track. Not enough? Lee added his touch to Flex Corp's "I Been Looking" and just as the rest of his productions, I couldn't be more impressed. Both the Clouded Judgement remix and Lee's remix of Felx Corp are due for release soon. Hopefully we'll see Kelsall break into the North American scene this year, till then I'll eagerly look forward to the next production.
Bit Funk :: Summary (DJ Mix)
Brooklyn's Bit Funk has just released a new disco DJ Mix called 'Summary'. Since it's Friday I figured now would be the perfect time to post this baby up. Hopefully get you psyched for some weekend dancing, at least before Hurricane Isaac hits us this Sunday here in South Florida. Just like most of what he puts out, this one is another winner. The mix also includes a few unreleased tracks of his that he didn't even include the names for on the tracklisting. Check out the mix/tracklisting below and if you like what you hear it's free for the taking, just gotta like his Facebook page. A fair trade I'd say.

Grimes :: Genesis (Video) + Remixes
Super eccentric Canadian artist Grimes has just released her highly entertaining and equally odd new video for her track "Genesis". The video comes in the midst of massive world-wide tour she has just begun to embark on. Check out that vid below as well as a few great remixes of "Genesis" and a few of her other tracks I've stumbled upon, all of which coincidentally are up for grabs as free downloads!
Moon Boots :: Friday, Aug. 24th @ Chalk Miami Beach
Moon Boots has landed in Miami! The last time he was here, he put on a phenomenal performance alongside FRΞNCH ΞXPRΞSS comrade Perseus. I'm honored to be joining him on the decks Friday for this next space odyssey. Moon Boots is quickly rocketing to become a staple in the Nu-disco world. Check out the tracks below if you don't believe me. He's even giving away some of them for free!
Felix Cartal :: Tonight ft Maja Ivarsson (The Sounds)
I was trying to figure out why the vocals to this latest single/video for "Tonight" by Vancouver artist Felix Cartal sounded so familiar and of course it's because it's the lead singer from The Sounds. Damn my crappy memory. I have so much trouble remembering names, but the voice that's a different story. Such a great track with so much energy. If this track doesn't make you wanna get up and dance I don't know what will. The track is off his latest album 'Different Faces' which is out now. In addition to the video there's also a bunch of remixes for the track that you can check out on his soundcloud here.
Here's a little quote sent our way from Felix himself...
"This song is one of my personal favourites from the record, Maja's voice really rounded it out into a pure, pop tune. We wanted to make a video that complimented the mood of the song, and a reminiscent summer video was the perfect way to do it. Summer Anthem 2012."
Felix Cartal - Tonight (feat. Maja Ivarsson from The Sounds) by FELIX CARTAL
Nantes :: Charlie
Another up and coming Aussie band is Nantes. The duo from Sydney started to record their as of yet untitled debut album August 11th. They have been touring Australia for a while now. They have a few tracks out, but I really like "Charlie". The remix by Polographia isn't too bad either.

Kodiak Fur
Got sent this self titled debut EP by new Miami band Kodiak Fur. Gorgeous dream wave pop goodness that I can hear over and over. Can't believe they're from Miami. Great to have music like this being produced in our Magic City. Check out the first single/video for "Hi Luv" below, plus another lovely tune from the EP "Dice", but really there's not a bad track in the bunch. Sample the rest of the EP on their soundcloud which is available as a free download. Talk about a beautiful thing. Good to have you boys on our Radar!

Little Dragon :: Sunshine
Little Dragon is a Swedish band from Gothenburg. They've been around since 1996 when lead singer Yukimi Nagano and her high school friends created the band. 10 years later they released their first album 'Little Dragon'. Five years later, and their music has been played on American TV shows Grey's Anatomy and Revenge. "Sunshine" is from their upcoming as yet untitled new album. Enjoy!
Fun fact :: The band got their name because of the temper tantrums Nagano would have in the studio.
Sunshine by Little Dragon
Giselle Rosselli :: Silk (Remixes)
Giselle Rosselli or just Giselle is another Austrilian act that has me waiting and waiting for her debut album. I first heard of her in an episode of the British teenage series Skins. The first song, "They Stay Down Deep" was just a beautiful array of melancholly romanticism.
She was born in Sydney and was the voice for Flight Facilities' 'Crave You'. One of the many things I like about her (she's über cute) is that she composes her own music. Her solo work is not dancie by any means. It is, however, something you listen to while just relaxing. The remixes on the other hand are... well check them out.
The Raveonettes :: Obvservations (Video)
The Raveonettes have just released the visually intriguing new video for the first single "Observations" from their upcoming new album Observator! This track is my favourite I've heard from the new album so far, and the video is pretty artsy and awesome. Check it out, and, if you haven't already done so, pick up the track in our previous post here.
Turtle Giant :: We Were Kids
Just ran across this great little indie-rock band from São Paulo, Brazil of all places. They go by the name Turtle Giant and have been creating a bit of a blogosphere buzz with their latest single "We Were Kids" off their All Hidden Places EP. Check out the track, as well as the brand new video for the single below!
Onuinu :: Happy Home
In the Pacific Northwest, the nice warm weather is coming to an end soon, but there’s just enough time to squeeze in some last minute summer jams. That’s where Portland’s Onuinu (ON-you-IN-you), otherwise known as Dorian Duvall, comes in. He’s about to unleash an eagerly awaited debut full length. Mirror Gazer drops on September 11 and I can’t wait to hear it.
Fresh off two back-to-back tours with Yacht and then Tycho, Onuinu’s been getting a fair share of national press and is ready to show the world what his self-described Disco-Hop is all about. Duvall’s music is a kaleidoscope of sounds that’s at once familiar and refreshingly new. All the elements in his first single, “Happy Home” gel together so well, you just have to hear it for yourself.
Check out this fantastic 2001-inspired fantasy video from the creative mind of director Andrew Sloan.

As a treat, here's another Andrew Sloan directed music video for "Ice Palace," also appearing on the upcoming LP. I was introduced to Onuinu by way of this psyched-out trip last year.

Theme Park :: Wax EP
Theme Park is a group I've been following for quite a while. The British quartet was featured in an Australian TV show called SLiDE, and ever since, I've been a fan. Their music is dancey enough for an early rotation, Sunday BBQ, and even a night out with friends. Recently, their song "Jamaica", also made it into my '12 Summer Play list. Check them out and their EP 'Wax'... oh and as an added perk, Theme Park also sound great live!
World's End Press :: Faithful
The 2 Bears :: Be Strong
The 2 Bears is a band from London. Their music is chill and has a groove that is a mixture of soul, lo-fi and house. The band is actually composed of Joe Goddard (of electronic band Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell.
The band was also supposed to include Joe Mount from Metronomy, but due to issues he could not become part of the band. Instead, the band went from The 3 Bears to The 2 Bears. Either way, enough reading. You guys are here for the music.
Sample the Goods. Here's the whole album 'Be Strong' for you to listen to.
DyE :: Fantasy
DyE (not a type-o) is the project of a very young French music student named Juan de Guillebon. What originally got me to check out the band out was the video to "Fantasy". "Fantasy" the standout track from 'Taki 183', starts out with two young kids at an indoor pool, what happens next is an interesting twist that includes romance, sci-fi and horror. The track is very chill and laid back. The album is very ambient in its totality, only with a few tracks that hypnotize your feet and make your body follow.
Sample the album 'Taki 183'
Joakim :: Forever Young / Remixes / Video
Joakim has contributed to the music world for a couple of years now, but it's not until 2012 that you hear some of his tracks being played at clubs. In his fourth studio album 'Nothing Gold' being released in September, Joakim has managed to come out with a gem of a first single "Forever Young".
A track he says is, "Is my song for all the 30-something-year old people out there. I used to hate people between 30 and 40 when I was under 30. I thought they gave up on most of their beliefs and lived a dull and fake life. Like cowards pretending to still be cool, contemptuous grown-ups afraid of the young sharks."
However, take it from me, you don't have to be in your 30's or 40's to enjoy this song.
Lucas Rezende :: Kimbra - Edwyn Collins (Remixes)
Some houseyness for your weekend? Thought so. Here are 2 first-rate remixes from Brazilian producer Lucas Rezende. Taking Kimbra's "Settle Down" exactly to where you can just forget about everything that matters for 5 minutes, but also giving it away for free? I admire him tackling "A Girl Like You" by Edwyn Collins, not an easy track to get up to 125.0 bpm and still get it sounding just as smooth as the original. Both of these will surely put a pep in your step this weekend. Enjoy!
Pinback :: Proceed To Memory
San Diego duo Pinback is releasing their first album in 5 years. Due out October 16th on Temporary Residence, Information Retrieved will have 10 tracks. Pinback, the sages that they are have given us more than a taste and have already released 3 of the tracks. "Sherman," in 2011, "True North," which was released earlier this year as a Record Store Day single, and now "Proceed to Memory," a fantastic reflective number that gradually structures into a symphonic bond.
Ancient Heat :: Slap & Gallop (An Introduction to Portland Dance Music)
photo by Katie Marggraf |
Hi! My name is John and this is my first post for OTR, so I'd like to start with a little bit of an introduction. I moved from Miami to Portland, Oregon in 2008. It was a big change, but it’s a wonderful home with great food, nature, art and music.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Portland is home to a budding dance music scene. Some of the biggest electronic groups to come out in recent years hail from our little Pacific Northwest wonderland. Glass Candy, Chromatics, Yacht/The Blow and Starfucker just to name a few.
In the spirit of this blog and the dance music we love, I want to begin with a series of posts that highlight rising newcomers to Portland’s electronic/dance scene. Over the next few weeks I’ll share some of my favorite local groups in the hopes that you can get to know me, and the City of Roses, a little better.
Since this is my introductory post I'll start with my own band, Ancient Heat! Brendan Grubb, who composes all the music, has taken a classic approach to the disco genre. Shunning the stereotype that usually comes to mind with disco, Grubb draws inspiration from European producers like Cerrone and Girogio Moroder.
With a touch of psychedelia, funk, soul and yes - even opera, Ancient Heat is a unique new addition to the Portland music scene. A band of nine who wear all white for live performances, the Portland Mercury described us as a “cross between ABBA and the Children of God.” Check out "Slap & Gallop" from our first vinyl EP 'Oh...You Bad'. There's also a sick remix of the title track by Bay Area producer Hydroplane of Circuitree Records. Enjoy!
Slowolf :: See U In My Dreams
Got sent this really cool debut track/video called "See U In My Dreams" from Copenhagen artist Slowolf. Real groovy and dark are always my cup of tea. Check it out below and see if you like. One thing's for sure, we'll be keeping an eye out on this up and comer.
Slowolf - See U In My Dreams by Anorak London
Bloc Party :: Octopus (SLDGHMR Remix)
Been a while since I've heard some new Bloc Party and even longer since I've heard a good remix for them. Lo and behold got sent this great remix the other day for Bloc Party's track "Octopus" from their upcoming album 'Four' by the duo SLDGHMR, who apparently are from our hometown of Miami. They did an amazing job! A great remix that will surely get many butts shaking it on the dance floor. Check it out below and if you like what you hear it's free for the taking.
P.S. You can also stream/check out the lyrics for the entire Bloc Party album 'Four' on their Facebook page here one week before it's released August 20th.
Bloc Party - Octopus (SLDGHMR Remix) by SLDGHMR
Sound of Arrows :: Remixed
Sound of Arrows are giving away a whole remix collection from their last album 'Voyage'. The collection includes some really great remixes from the likes of Visitor, Figures, Fort Romeau, Chad Valley, The Knocks and even Tiesto. A really great collection of remixes that I've been listening to the last few days. Check out a couple of my favorites by Figures and Fort Romeau below. Pick up the rest of the collection on their Facebook page here for the incredible price of nada.

Two Door Cinema Club :: Sleep Alone (Video)
Two Door Cinema Club who we posted about their latest single "Sleep Alone" last month here recently unveiled their new video for said track. It's like a dark whirlwind dream/nightmare were your being chased by trains while in your bed. Pretty extravagant video for a highly pop-tastic track. Check it out below. Their sophomore album 'Beacon' will be out in a few weeks on September the 3rd.
360 :: Run Alone (’96 Bulls Revisit)
As if I didn't miss this sound enough. Cough, Australia we need more of this. '96 Bulls have dished out this little end of the summer jam. Styalz Fuego, one of the original producers on 'Run Alone' is also one part of the ’96 bulls, making this a revisit, not a remix. Packed from start to finish with warm positive chords and vocals that will be sure to have you daydreaming the rest of August away. Just hit play.
Kisses :: Funny Heartbeat
I know Summer is almost over, but hey, it still feels like summer out there to me, so no reason why we can't still cram some new late-summer jams in yet. This latest track from Kisses is just that! Been a little while since we heard from these guys, a few summer's ago their track "Bermuda" was my go-to track! Now, this latest release "Funny Heartbeat" keeps right in line with that breezy, beachy pop that got us to fall in love with them in the first place.
Matthew Dear :: Her Fantasy
Ready for some new Matthew Dear?? I know I am. Really dug his dark 2010 masterpiece 'Black City' so been patiently waiting for his upcoming album 'Beams' which is scheduled for release August 27/28th. The first taste of the new record is first single "Her Fantasy" which is the opening track from the new album. Really tasty nugget that continues with his unique dark electronic dance groove that he does so well. Check out the track/video below, plus a free remix of the track by Poolside. Welcome back Mr. Dear! 2012 wouldn't have been the same without you.

Portugal artist SirAiva that we posted about a couple of months ago here is back with another excellent track "Sun Delight". This one just like the name implies is a breezy nu-disco summer jam with an uplifting feel that will have you pressing repeat over and over. Check it out below then get into summer.
SirAiva - Sun Delight (Feat. Laura) by SirAiva
Tiger Love :: Summer Rain
London band comprised of brothers Tiger Love that we posted a couple times before, most recently last year here for their track "Gio Gio" and you may also remember their excellent 2010 track "Pussy Cocaine" which did really well on Hype Machine are back. Their latest track/video is called "Summer Rain" and it continues to show these guys have great pop sensibility. The boys are currently in NYC recording their debut album. Can't wait for that! In the meantime check out their latest scorcher.
Reptile Youth :: Shooting Up Sunshine (Video Exclusive)
Got sent this great new video by Copenhagen band Reptile Youth for their new track "Shooting Up Sunshine". It's from their upcoming self titled debut album. Really catchy bubbly indie pop tune that I'm sure you guys are gonna dig. Having a pretty girl dancing in your video never hurts the situation. Check it out below, an OTR Exclusive!
Mighty Mouse :: Remix + August DJ Mix
London artist Mighty Mouse that we posted his excellent Prince "Controversy" re-edit a few months ago here is back with another excellent remix. This time it's for Future Unlimited's track "Golden". He has a dub version and a vocal version, both are good, but I"m always attracted to vocals so that's the one I'll probably be playing out. Check them out below, plus his latest August Nu-Disco DJ Mix that will help your work week just slide on by. Best part is they are all free for the taking! Enjoy and keep up the great work MM!
Theater of Delays :: Journey to the Sun
I swear we're not on Theater of Delays pay roll, although it may look like it cause we post about him so much. It's only cause he keeps coming out with such amazing remixes and in this case a new original tune "Journey to the Sun". It's the first in a series of 4 new originals he's gonna be releasing in the next couple months. This one is solid once again and available as a free download. Check it...
Teen :: Eternal Summers (Remixes)
Toronto artist Teen that we posted about last year here sent us a couple of their latest remixes for the band Eternal Summers and I'm digging the sounds, real smooth stuff. Best part is they are letting us post the remixes as free downloads for our readers. With no further ado check out the goods and if you like what you hear grab them on their soundcloud.
Jonas Rathsman :: Since I Don't Have You
Jonas Rathsman dropped a dance floor bomb today on FRENCH EXPRESS. The tune tells the love story between Jonas and his lost microKORG. He spent the summer with other synthesizers creating these healing melodies, but apparently he really just misses his KORG. Plus, Jonas is giving you this emotional masterpiece as a FREE DOWNLOAD!
Clancy :: Make Up
London electronic artist Clancy that we've written about several times, most recently here, contacted us about his brand new single "Make Up" and just like everything that's come before it is Grade A quality. This one is a real chill nu-disco tune that is right in time for the summer. Check it out below and if you dig it, it's free for the taking. Sweeeet!
Carried By Waves :: Softly Held Together
Looking for some soft pretty electronic music? Then look no further than Irish band Carried By Waves. They sent us their new album 'Softly Held Together' and I am digging it. Check out a couple of my favorite tracks "Lights / Climbing Trees" and "Parting Speech", but really they are all great tracks. If you like these they are offering the entire album as a free release on their bandcamp or soundcloud. Gotta love it. Good to have you guys on our Radar.
MagicHour :: The Lives We Invent
MagicHour that we posted about previously here has just released a second single "The Lives We Invent" from his upcoming album 'Remember Harder' being released August 14th. He's got another winner on his hands. In addition to the new single you can pick up his first single "My Kind" which is pretty sweet as well. Best part is he is offering both tracks as free downloads in preparation for the album release. It's a win win. Check them out below...
