A little bit chillwave, a little bit indie pop, and a whole lot of awesome. Kansas based experimental artist Static Fingers is breaking some barriers with his debut full length album Never Be Good Enough, which was just released a couple of days ago. Last time we heard from Static Fingers was the release of his super chill single "Tranquil Turbulence" which we posted previously here a few years back. Now, he shows us his range with sounds varying from some excellent ambient electronic instrumentals to more lively indie pop/rock. Particularly loving the super chillwave track "Courtney's Song" as well as the bright poppy track "Apocolyptic Dreams".
What's even better is that he's made the whole album available as free downloads! So check out these tracks below, then head over to his Soundcloud for the rest!
NYC indie band Ghost Beach just put out a remixEPModern Tongues featuring remixes from the likes of Gigamesh, Chad Valley, Shook, Penguin Prison and more that you can check out on their soundcloud here. As usual really digging Penguin Prison's work on the remix for "Too Young", so thought I'd share that baby with you guys.
P.S. If you like the Ghost Beach facebook page I linked above they have several tracks that you can download for free. I took advantage of that offer.
Been awhile since we last heard from UK'sFuturecop! As of yesterday the wait is over. They just released new single/video for "Atlantis 1997" ft the equally amazing Cavaliers of Fun on vocal duties. Digging the new tune which will be featured in their upcoming album Hopes, Dreams & Alienation. Don't leave us for so long next time boys.
Check out the newness below, including a remix of the track by one of our favorites Lifelike, who once again proves he's one of the best remixers out there.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs just put out an amazing video for their new single "Sacrilege" that I've been jamming to for about a month now. The intense video/mini movie plays out in reverse as you get to see all the protagonist's exploits. Love can make people angry, especially if you piss off the whole town, haha.
The single is from their highly anticipated new albumMosquito being released April 15/16. Can't waitfor that! For now check out their new video.
Since it seems the early 2000's seems to be making a comeback lately (new Strokes album is pretty ace), it only makes sense that electroclash queen Miss Kittin who collaborated with The Hacker and Felix Da Housecat back in the day be a part of the party. Today she released a newEPBassline featuring the tracks "Bassline", "Come into My House" and "I Don't Know How to Move" that will be featured in her upcoming double albumCalling From the Stars out April 22nd.
Digging the new tracks that feature her trademark dark electronic dance sounds and sexy vocals. Forgot how much I missed hearing her voice. Hopefully some of these tracks will be making it back into the clubs these days, particularly those straying away from vocals. People still like those right?
Check out the soundclouds for "Bassline" and "Come Into My House" below as well as the video for "Bassline". Can't wait to hear the rest of her new album and see how well it is received in 2013.
Just saw the brand new video from indie-pop greats the Generationals premiered today at Paste Magazine! Love these guys! The track/vid is a preview of their new album Heza which will be out April 4th (pre-order at www.polyvinylrecords.com) and should be a great one! Check out the vid below.
Don't know much about Bodywork except that they are from Leeds, UK. Got sent a super simple email from them just saying 'please take a minute to listen' and a link to their soundcloud for "Tame". I did just that and I am glad I did. Great dark moody atmospheric electronic track that they are giving away as a free download. It is from their upcoming album The Grind due later this summer. What an intro.
Check out that tune below and if you like what you hear be sure to download that sucker and follow their facebook page I linked above.
Loving this great new single from LA's Kisses. Kisses have been an OTR mainstay for awhile now having given us many great summer jams in the past. This one titled "Huddle" from their forthcoming album Kids in LA is a bit different, taking on more of a heavy 80's influence than their past works, but when is that ever a bad thing?
One of our faves Noah and the Whale are getting set to release new album Heart of Nowhereon May 6th. They just released the video for first single "There Will Come a Time" and I am digging it! Glad to have the boys back. Check that out below...
Swedish indie-pop artist Beatrice Eli who we posted about last year here, is back. She is getting ready to release her Debut EP It's Over on March 24th. Her reps sent along her video for the title track, plus the soundcloud for "Violent Silence" and I'm digging them both! Thought I'd share the goods with you guys. Check them out below, then keep an eye on this up and coming artist.
With all the recent hype surrounding Daft Punk's eminent release of their new album it makes sense that we will probably be seeing new batches of remixes from these electronic music giants. Like this new remix sent our way for Daft Punk's classic track "Technologic" by Antony Toga that is fabulous! One of the best Daft Punk remixes my ears have ever come across. Best part is he is offering the remix as a free download! Check out the goods below and I'm sure after 10 seconds you'll agree this baby's a winner and quickly press that download button.
Now the waiting game for the new album/remixes commences. There's a huge Daft Punk billboard that sprung up here in Miami near the UltraFestival which has some people wondering if they will be making a surprise appearance this weekend. We shall see, but since they didn't play at the first week's events, I wouldn't hold my breath.
One of my favorite newer acts Cherub just released a new record entitled 100 Bottles. The duo who hails from Nashville never fails to put the sex, drugs, and fun in their electro pop ditties and this record is just another example. Though it lacks a bonafied hit like "Doses and Mimosas" I'm really feeling all the tracks. Their sound is like Prince and Chromeo collaborated on a record in the future and made it deliciously crass.
Check out my two favorite tracks off the new record below. Also if you have a chance to catch them on tour, do it. You'll dance hard.
There are few bands who could make their whole album into my MP3 player. Most of us, if anything, select a 2-3 tracks and move on. This, however, has not been the case with Theme Park's self-titled debut album. The British band's album has been on repeat ever since it came out 2 weeks ago, and up to now, it is in my short list for "Albums of the Year".
The trio has managed to compose 11 tracks that should provide a worth-while experience. They go from synth-pop to new wave to island-esque sounds effortlessly. The only drawback to the album was their exclusion of "Milk" and "A Mountain of Love", which are really good tracks.
Overall, this album gets a 4 out of 5.
Track Listing:
1. Big Dream - has a good baseline and is just the appetizer, enticing the ears.
2. Jamaica - This perhaps has become my favorite track. It has this really fun, and summer vibe that I can't help, but want to dance.
3. Two Hours - has an 80's INXS vibe, but without the voice. It's just a nice song to spin around the room dancing.
4. A Place They'll Never Know - 80's synth-pop sound to it. It has a slow vibe, but could be an early morning track on the dance floor. The bridge of the song leaves the possibility for a remix.
5. Tonight - is just fun. This song has become the first song I play before heading out for the night. It should work itself into the dance floor in some clubs. I expect a remix of this song. It has limitless potential.
6. Saccades (Lines We Delay) - Every album has the intermission track. This one is it. It's the album's interlude. The track gets going around the 2:06 mark.
7. Wax - the first track I heard from this amazing band. How good is this track? Well, it made me want to get an RSS feed on them. For some reason, I like the single version better.
8. Ghosts - has a great Jamaican/funky riff. This is really a nice "romantic" song with a mid-afternoon pre-party vibe.
9. Still Life - The second slow paced song. This track is ok. It does have a good baseline. It should be a song they play at the end of their shows.
10. Los Chikas - grammatically incorrect in Spanish. At 2 minutes this track is really background noise and their weakest link. They could have added "Milk" instead.
11. Blind - a down tempo song that, to me, has a similarity to "Ghosts". It is still a good track and definitely worth a listen.
Honorable Mentions
The singles of this album have some good B-Sides. These include:
1. A Mountain We Love - could be found on the Wax EP. It could have easily taken the place of "Still Life"
2. Milk - the second song I heard from this band. As stated above, it could have easily replaced half of the songs in this album. It is a really good track that got left out of the album. I guess something to get people to buy the singles.
Client Liaison are an Australian duo from Melbourne. "End of the Earth" is a beautifully, good synth-pop song. The song borrows from 80'snew wave and synth sounds mixed with a tribal and African influence. The music video is composed of Australian TV clips and such, but it has such a bad early 80's design that it is great.
Australia's music scene is pretty amazing. The Bamboos seem to be one of those bands that are bound to cross the Pacific Ocean and leave their mark on music and America. The band incorporates the typical guitar, bass, vocal, and drums, but also includes a sax line and a trumpet player. That's something we hardly see in a rock band nowadays.
The song, "I Got Burned" has a big band sound with a soul twist to it. Tim Rogers on vocals was a great choice. His voice is really suited for this track. The music video is pretty cool. It actually has to do with the song, which I know - rare.
Digging the new single/video for "Late Night" by UK band Foals. Haven't really heard their new album 'Holy Fire' which was just released in February, but after hearing this new track I'm gonna have to change that pronto.
Brooklyn duo Chordashian that we posted about last year here sent us this sweet remixNorway producer SoundSAM did for their track "Cold Nights". Digging the 7 plus min remix which has been disco-fied and had a sweet robot vocoder added to it. Best part is you can grab the remix for free just by liking SoundSAM's Facebook page here. Sounds like a deal to me.
Got sent this great video for Little Jinder's new single "Whatever 4ever". I was blown away by how amazing a pop track it was. Then I read her bio and discovered she is from Stockholm and then it all made sense. Those guys just make pop music that is so amazing and different than anything else made around the world.
Check out the video below. The track is being released tomorrow(3/13). I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more from this lovely lady in the months/years to come.
Scion is at it again! This time releasing a newEP Moments in Time by the amazing Alan Braxe. The EP features 4 new original tracks incl vocals on two of them by The Spimes, as well as remixes by heavyweights such as Gigamesh, Lifelike, Memory Tapes and more. Best part is they are offering entire collection for free in exchange for your email. Doesn't get any better than that!
Check out some of the originals via their soundcloud below and if you like what you hear you can download the entire package including the remixes via Scion's website here. Enjoy!
The lovely lead singer of Brazilian Girls Sabina is getting ready to release her first solo album in 2013. The first taste of the new record is first single "Toujours" which she has just released a rather revealing/funny video for. Digging the tune! Always loved her/Brazilian Girls so I'm sure the new record is gonna be ace! Can't wait to hear the rest of it. For now check out that great new video.
One of our favoritesHey Champthat we've been covering for years and gave us the excellent track "Cliche" earlier this year here, is back with a brand new single "Comet" ft BeuKes. As usual for them, it is another excellent electro-pop jam, but with the added female vocals adding another layer of freshness to their sound. Best part is they are offering the track as a free download. Check that out below.
It had been a while since I last heard any news from one of my fave Aussie bands Midnight Juggernauts. Today they released a new track/video for "Ballad of the War Machine". Really great track with a trippy VHS looking Russian filmed video that they apparently released anonymously a few weeks ago, to see what kind of reactions they would get. Apparently they liked what they saw as they officially released the video under their name today. They promise more new material in 2013. Can't wait, for now check that out that new vid/track below...
P.S. Thanks to my friend Christy (mutual Jugg lover) for giving me the heads up on this.
10 years after releasing 2003's 'Reality', legendary artist David Bowie is getting ready to release new album 'The Next Day' on March the 12th. 10 years is a long time between albums which can make you wonder if he still has it. After listening to the album today which they are streaming in it's entirety oniTunes, I can safely say,he's still got it! Definitely a classic Bowie record that will fit nicely into his amazing discography.
Earlier this week he released a video for the single "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" which is a great tune, but definitely not the best track on the album. Check out that soundcloud/video below. Good to have you back Mr. Godfather.
