Kitsune's Pyramid :: Summer Mix Tape
Kitsune's been having a great summer, having Club Nights throughout major cities around the world. We had one in Miami a few weeks ago at our weekly Saturday Night Party His & Hers at The Garret, where the amazing Fred Falke rocked the house. They have a big one coming up June 22nd in London at the Village Underground with Lindstrom, Classixx, Punks Jump Up & Pyramid who put together a DJ Mix to get people excited for the event. Since it's Friday I figured today would be the perfect day to post this baby up and get everyone excited for some weekend dancing of our own. If you like what you hear the mix is free for the taking. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
P.S. If you live in the South Florida area we got Pirate Stereo of Slap & Tickle fame joining us tomorrow, Saturday (6/1) at His & Hers at The Garret where tons of dancing will ensue! The party's free, starts at 11PM with Drink Specials throughout the night. Hope to see you there! For more info check out the facebook invite here. Cheers!
Phoenix :: Trying to Be Cool (Remixes)
So I ran into this really cool Breakbot remix of Phoenix's "Trying to Be Cool", one of my favorite tracks from their new album Bankrupt! As I was looking for it on soundcloud I realized that Phoenix had given away the stems for the track and there were literally hundreds of remixes out for the track. As I started going through them I realized many of them were really great, so instead of just making this post about the Breakbot remix I thought I would post a few of our favorites.
Below you can find a few of those, but there are literally tons more on soundcloud, most free for the taking. So if you have a little time I'd go to soundcloud and do even more research on your own. I'm sure you will find many to your liking. Happy hunting!
The Pass :: Without Warning (Amtrac Remix)
Got this beaut of a remix sitting pretty in my inbox today by Kentucky's Amtrac for fellow Kentucky band that we've covered before and got a chance to see live in Miami The Pass. Absolutely gorgeous remix that sounds exactly like what I want to be hearing on this fine afternoon. Thought I'd share the goods with our lovely readers. Check it...
The Magician :: Magic Tape 33 (DJ Mix)
Monday's after a long weekend can be tough, but this latest DJ Mix :: Magic Tape 33 by the amazing Magician will surely help your work week day fly on by. On the up side only 4 more days till the weekend right? Enjoy!
Boards of Canada :: Tomorrow's Harvest
Umm, what was I saying about all the amazing albums being released this year? Well here's another one! Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada who haven't released any new material since 2006's Trans Canada Highway EP are getting ready to release new album Tomorrow's Harvest on June 11th. The first taste we've gotten from the record is first single/video for "Reach for the Dead", which is just about as lovely as they come. Beautiful organic electronic deliciousness. Cannot wait to hear the rest of that album. Luckily the day is almost upon us.
For now wrap your head around "Reach for the Dead".
Queens of the Stone Age :: ...Like Clockwork
2013 the year of amazing albums continues... Another highly anticipated record coming our way June 4th is ...Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age. For this record they re-enlisted the drumming help of Dave Grohl who worked with them on their two previous break out records 2000's Rated R (which I was obsessed with) and 2002's Songs for the Death which had the mega-hit "No One Knows". So far they've released two tracks from the album "My God is the Sun" and "I Appear Missing" which both feature animated videos and their trademark stoner rock sound. I'm sure the album will be a pleaser.
Check out those below and be on the lookout for the album which will be out in about 10 days. Welcome back Queens!
Daft Punk :: Doin' It Right (Theater of Delays Remix)
With all the excitement surrounding Daft Punk's new album RAM which was just released yesterday there is bound to be a million remixes coming out this summer and beyond. One of OTR's favorite remixers Theater of Delays took a stab at one of my fave tracks from the album, the Panda Bear collab "Doin' it Right" and he did a phenomenal job. Played it out this past weekend and some of my friends that don't even like Daft Punk were asking me "this is Daft Punk?" Yes it is...
Check out the remix below and if you like what you hear he's offering it as a free download in exchange for liking his Facebook page. Best grab that sucker.
Tesla Boy :: The Universe Made of Darkness
Another great album that dropped yesterday is The Universe Made of Darkness, the sophomore album from Russian dream wave act Tesla Boy. We covered their excellent single "Fantasy" last year here. Universe continues with Tesla's 80's new wave inspired synthpop sound with a bit of an r&b twist on a few of the tracks. Digging the record! Some of my early favorites include :: "Stars", "Broken Doll" ft Tyson, "Dream Machine", "M.C.H.T.E." and "Fantasy", but really they're all pretty sweet.
Check out a few of those tracks below, if you need further convincing you can preview the entire album on their soundcloud.
The National :: Trouble Will Find Me
Today one of my favorite bands The National release their new album Trouble Will Find Me. Been listening to it the last few days and I can safely say it is another master stroke from these amazing musicians. Gonna take a little time to see if it can topple 2010's stellar High Violet, which was my favorite album of that year, but if you are a fan of theirs you will not be disappointed. Ever since 2005's Alligator I have been a fan of this band and have been continually been impressed with each new release seemingly topping the last.
Check out their track "Don't Swallow the Cap" below, plus their video for first single "Demons" and second single "Sea of Love".
Tomharu :: Last Day (Bazz Remix)
I don't know how my friend Lex does it, but he's always sending me amazing remixes, many from artists that I've never heard before. Like this beaut he sent my way today for "Last Day" by Tomharu remixed by Tokyo producer Bazz that is pretty fabulous. Light and fresh like a warm summer day. Definitely got my day started on the right track. Thought I'd share the goods with you lovely folks. Maybe it will do the same for you. Check out more greatness from him on his soundcloud.
Just to show you how much Bazz changed the track from the original, here's the original version.
Villa Kang :: Touch of Evil
Don't know much about Toranto trio Villa Kang, except that they are some talented folks! Loving the track they sent our way "Touch of Evil". Great groovy loop filled jam. Best part is they are offering the track as a free download. Can't beat that, check it out below. Video in the works.
Holy Ghost! :: Dumb Disco Ideas
New Holy Ghost? Yes please! Having been released the day Daft Punk put their new album as a free stream on iTunes means "Dumb Disco Ideas" may have gotten lost in the shuffle, but it's a pretty sweet track. Their first new single from their upcoming album Dynamics which does not have a release date yet. Not too fond of the video (find it rather boring), but hey can't win them all. They will be on tour this year with the legendary New Order. Can't wait for the new album. For now check out this first one...
Classixx :: Hanging Gardens
I've been a fan of LA duo Classixx for many years now. Ever since their amazing summer jam of 2009 "I'll Get You" which was all the rage that summer. Since then I have had the privilege of hearing them DJ on more than a few occasions here in Miami and they always play great tunes that get the party going. Well today they are officially releasing their debut album Hanging Gardens which is available on iTunes.
Check out a couple of tunes from the album "Holding On" and "All You're Waiting For" feat DFA's Nancy Whang below. If you like these I'd look into the rest of that album. Congrats fellas!
Just for kicks here's their super fun summer time video for "I'll Get You" which is also featured in the album. Seems like this just came out the other day. Boy does time fly...
Hunter Hunted
Talk about a duo that have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. LA's Hunter Hunted would definitely fit the bill. Having just formed in January of this year they have already been named as a band to look out for in Nylon, Billboard and MTV, as well as performing Live on Conan. All while being unsigned. After listening to their music, I can see why they've done so well. Great indie pop/rock, especially from an act so early in their career.
Check out a couple of tracks below from their self titled debut EP "Keep Together" and "Operating", plus an excellent remix of "Keep Together" by Spacebrother that ups the ante, as well as their performance on Conan. You can hear the rest of their EP on their soundcloud.

Daft Punk :: Random Access Memories (Streaming on iTunes)
Daft Punk's highly anticipated new album Random Access Memories is streaming for Free on iTunes. A week before it's official release date of Tuesday, 5/21. I'd check that out if you get a chance. They made an amazing mid-tempo pop/dance record. Very 70's disco / funk / italo inspired. Definitely a more grown up record for them.
Work Drugs :: West Coast Slide (Video)
Been away from the blogging gig for a bit, being kept super busy brining my son into the world. What better way to return than with a bit of excellent new summer fare from a long time OTR favourite Work Drugs. This track "West Coast Slide" is the first single from their upcoming new album Mavericks, out next month. The track and it's accompanying video are perfectly timed for setting the stage for summer fun!
Blondie :: Heart of Glass (Oliver & Thee Mike B Remix)
This Oliver/Mike B Remix of Blondie's classic track "Heart of Glass" has been floating around in my Facebook feed the last few days and for good reason, it's a good one. Not only is it a great remix, but they are also giving away the track as a free download. That's a winning combination right there. Check out/grab that sucker below...
Vitalic :: Fade Away (Video/Remixes)
Just caught the new video for Vitalic's track "Fade Away" which is very Quentin Tarantino/Guy Ritchie-esque. Lots of violence. Even better than the video, I'm really digging the track which has a big booming dance floor sound. Can't wait to play it out in my sets. In addition to the video they put out a remix package for the single of which I am really digging the Formentera Rework and the C2C Remix. Check those out below....
Neon Neon :: Praxis Makes Perfect
New Neon Neon? Hell yes! The new album by the side project of Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and producer Boom Bip Praxis Makes Perfect has just been released. Pretty psyched as I loved their 2008 Mercury Prize Nominated debut album Stainless Style. Just like their first album which was a concept album based around John Delorean this new one continues in that tradition, with this one being based around Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli (Doctor Zhivago).
My favorite part of the Neon Neon side project is that Gruff and Boom Bip really get to let their hair down with these records and explore the more fun electro-pop side of music, with simple synths and catchy melodies. I like to think of this project as Gruff's Postal Service. So if you like that type of music as much as I do, then these albums will be right up your alley.
Check out a couple new tracks from Praxis Makes Perfect "Mid Century Modern Nightmare" as well as the video for "Hammer & Sickle". If you like what you hear the new album's out now at all your usual locales. I'd look into it.
Kitsune Club Night w/Fred Falke Sat (5/11) at His & Hers
Pretty psyched for the Kitsune Club Night party going down this Saturday, May 11th at our weekly love child event with PopLife, His & Hers at The Garret. On this night the amazing Fred Falke (one of our all time fave producers) will be manning the decks for what is sure to be an amazing night of dance floor action. Chances are you've been probably been jamming to many of his amazing tunes/remixes throughout the years without even knowing it. Miike Snow's "Animal" remix anyone?
Check out a few of his amazing tracks/remixes below, plus a Kitsune mini mix to get you psyched for Saturday. Buy your tix's for the event for $10 on Ticket Fly here and check out the Facebook invite here.
P.S. Saturday we will also be giving away some free tix's to Grizzly Bear's show at The Fillmore on (6/18) courtesy of Live Nation. Just another reason to swing through. See ya there...
Marina and the Diamonds + Charli XCX :: Just Desserts + Tour
I always thought Charli XCX reminded me of Marina & the Diamonds and now it seems they are gonna be touring together this summer. In addition to the tour they collaborated on a new track called "Just Desserts" which is delicious and the best part is they are offering the track as a free download. Check out the tour dates starting May 6th here and the track below.
P.S. If you live in South Florida Charli XCX will be performing Live at The Garret at Grand Central on Sat, June 8th for our weekly His & Hers party along with Little Daylight & Kitty Pryde. You can buy advance tix's for that here and check out the Facebook invite here. Can't wait!
Astari Nite :: Pyramids
Miami band Astari Nite has just released their new single "Pyramids" today. The track is from their forthcoming debut album produced by Steve Thompson who has worked with big acts such as Guns & Roses, Madonna, Blondie and many others. Digging the tune! It is their most polished tune to date with a dark and gothy sound. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
For now check out the first single via the soundcloud below and if you like what you hear they are giving away the track for free via their site.
