YOUR SOURCE FOR CUTTING EDGE NEW MUSIC

Yousef :: I See feat. Charli Taft (Shadow Child Remix)

Rounding out the day with this messy tune that Shadow Child just posted up on his Soundcloud. The clip below is not a full version and has not been released, though will be soon via Defected Records. The four minutes that you can hear suggests this track is going to be all over the place this fall. Definitely digging it so far.

The xx :: End of Summer RemiXX Compilation

Quite possibly one of the easiest things to do when it comes to remembering the year in music, is to overlook artists that have had milestone career breakthroughs in the late fall of the previous year. This came true for The xx when they released their sophomore album 'Coexist' in the fall of 2012, a foggy period of time was ages ago. I was compelled to come up with a way to revisit The xx's success without playing the records through once more. Twelve trusty edits and remixes are what I came up with. Some are old, some new, most are free.

French Horn Rebellion :: Don't You Want Me Baby (Human League Cover)

Sorry haven't been posting as much as usual, but I've been taking some courses which are pretty intensive and along with work leaves me little time to write. Good news is I'm on my last leg. This will be my last week. Finger's crossed that I pass my test, then I will be back to regular postings starting next week. Now on to some music...

Got sent this sweet cover French Horn Rebellion did for Human League's 80's classic "Don't You Want Me". Think they did a fabulous job, even incorporating some female vocals like in the original. Check out that baby below and if you like what you hear they are giving the track away for free in exchange for a Tweet or Facebook post. Sounds like a deal to me, especially for a such a killer cover like this. Enjoy!

Fenech-Soler :: Somebody

On the brink of their long awaited sophomore release, the Northamptonshire electro pop 4 piece Fenech-Soler finally gave us a full version of their single "Somebody". The track stays true to the indie dance roots that the band emerged from in 2006, while taking you on a sophisticated yet lighthearted ride into electronic pop bliss. Often compared to the sounds of Delphic and Friendly Fires, Fenech-Soler has once again proved how immensely underrated they are (North & South America wake up).

Quite a few indie dance-electro inflected acts that began recording songs like this are abandoning the sound, not making full LP's, or are flat out disappearing leaving Fenech-Soler plenty of room to turn some heads when 'Rituals' is released on September 16th.

Eons :: Destiny

Miami electronic pop band Eons that we covered before and their excellent track "Moonlight" here, are back! They just released new single "Destiny" which continues in their excellent tradition of combining sultry electronic beats with dreamy lyrics and catchy choruses. They also put on great live shows and their lead singer is one super nice fellow. Have a feeling they will be going far.

Check out the tune below which they are offering as a free download. Keep up the great work!

Tears for Fears :: Ready to Start (Arcade Fire Cover)

Legendary act Tears for Fears who I heard are getting ready to make a comeback with a box set and new album in the works have covered Arcade Fire's "Ready to Start" to spectacular effect. From classical influences to dub-step beats, they did an amazing job! Sounding like classic them, in today's modern times. Check out the goodness below.

Icona Pop :: Grand Central Show (Saturday, August 17th) Tix Giveaway + After Party at His & Hers / The Garret

If you've been on planet earth the past year chances are you've heard Icona Pop's huge hit "I Love It" blaring from a TV commercial, movie preview or the radio on many occasions. Great pop track written by Charli XCX, who we got to meet when she performed at His & Hers not too long ago.

The lovely ladies from London/Stockholm are gonna be in Miami this Saturday, August 17th performing live at Grand Central at 9PM (check out the Facebook invite here). Our friends at GC have been kind enough to give us a pair of tixs to giveaway for the show. Simply comment below with an email where we can reach you (don't forget your email or you won't be picked), then Friday we will randomly pick a winner. Simple as that. Good luck!

P.S. After the show we're having an Afterparty Party right upstairs at The Garret at Grand Central at our weekly jam His & Hers! No Cover / 21+ / See ya there...

Falcon Punch & Black Amex :: Backstroke

The power of friend recommendation strikes again. This time my friend Lex (who is always sending me great stuff) posted this excellent track "Backstroke" by Falcon Punch & Black Amex on my Facebook page. Great almost instrumental electronic dance track that on top of being awesome, is also being offered as a free download. Gotta love that! Will definitely be incorporating this into my DJ sets. Check it out below...

NIN :: Copy of A + Live Lollapalooza Set

Loving the new Nine Inch Nails single "Copy of A" from their upcoming album 'Hesitation Marks'. Definitely the most electronic I've ever heard Trent get. He's saying the album is inspired by their classic 90's album 'Downward Spiral'. That can only be a good thing. Can't wait to hear the record.

P.S. Did you catch their live set at Lollapalooza?!? They ripped it! Love the opening transition from "Copy of A" into a totally reinvented "Sanctified". Below is a full stream of their Lolla set. If you got some time, I'd put that baby on 720 then crank it up! Enjoy!

Arctic Monkeys :: Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?

It seems quartet from Sheffield, England is at it again with the track "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" It's nice to see Arctic Monkeys out with their fifth album, AM. If this single is any indication of what's in the album, it should be a good one.

The album also features guest musicians: Josh Homme, Pete Thomas and Bill Ryder-Jones. John Cooper Clarkes' lyrics appear on the track "I Wanna Be Yours".

The Return of MGMT

Been a few years since we've had a new album from MGMT. Since their polarizing 2010 album 'Congratulations', which got pretty mixed reviews of either love or hate. I personally dug it. They went on a more psychedelic, less pop trip. They are back in 2013 and getting ready to release their self titled third album Sept 17th. The first taste from the new record is the psychedelic sounding "Alien Days" which they released a few months ago. Now they've released their quirky video for "Your Life is a Lie", which has already cracked 1 million views.

Looks like that psychedelic/experimental trek of their second album is the path they are gonna continue taking. Should make for an interesting trip. Can't wait to hear the whole thing. For now check out those two new tracks, and welcome back fellas!

X Priest X :: Samurai

Yay, I'm finally back to posting after my several month sabbatical having been busy introducing my now three month old son to the world. Thought I'd make my comeback by introducing you all to this great little synth-pop, super 80's throwback, debut track "Samurai" from Orlando, FL based trio X Priest X. Lord knows I love me some retro synth, and this ultra smooth jam screams hot summer, city nights.

Franz Ferdinand :: Love Illumination

I was pretty disappointed with Franz Ferdinand's first single "Right Action" from their upcoming album 'Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action' being released August 27th. I am such a big fan of theirs and after four years with no new material I thought that choice for a first single was rather weak. I hoped the rest of the album would be stronger and their second single "Love Illumination" has given me that hope. Much better/catchier track from this Glasgow band which I was obsessed with when their debut album arrived back at the indie rock peak of 2004. Let's hope the rest of the album goes more in this direction.

OMD :: Night Cafe

In keeping with the 80's theme of yesterday's Cure post I am loving the latest single "Night Cafe" by 80's electronic pop legends OMD. Their latest single from their 2013 album English Electric sounds like it could have come straight from the 80's. Just as the title implies it reminds me of having an espresso at night in a Paris Cafe. Lovely tune that fits perfectly into their extensive catalog of hits. Check that out below...

The Cure :: Fascination Street (Virgin Magnetic Material Remix)

In my constant search for 80's remixes to play out in my DJ sets I ran into this spectacular subdued remix of the classic Cure track "Fascination Street" by Israeli artist/remixer Virgin Magnetic Material. Not sure if I will be able to play this track in my DJ sets, but it has already gotten tons of plays from me at home. Simply one of the loveliest remixes I've come across in quite a while.

Be sure to check out his soundcloud, where he has tons of other amazing remixes of a similar vibe, and many from other 80's acts as well. One talented fellow. Glad he's on our radar.

Owl Eyes :: Nightswim (Video) + Goldroom Remix

Australian artist Owl Eyes which Ray posted about earlier this year here has a great video for her track "Nightswim". The track, which shares the same name as her album, is one of those tracks that you just want to play on repeat. The song is very chill and definitely should be played during a night swim. Check that out below...

As a bonus here's also an excellent Goldroom remix for her track "Jewels & Sapphires".
