Recently, The Launderettes were in an episode of the Norwegian - American show, Lillyhammer. During the show, they were on stage playing "Red River". The harmonies from the song reminded me of early Pixies and Lush.
The all girl quintet is originally from Oslo, Norway. According to their Facebook page, they classify themselves as a garage band. If you like "Red River" check out their latest album 'Getaway'.
Miami band Jacuzzi Boys who I see around town pretty regularly have a great new single "Double Vision" which will be featured on their upcoming ST third album. Digging the track and accompanying video which see's some lovely ladies getting nihilistic on an old man's car. Check those out below...
Figure you can't really go wrong with some good, gritty British garage rock, so check out Sheffield, UK band Best Friends. Their new EP Throwing Up comes out officially March 26th, but the 6 track album is available to stream in full already on their Bandcamp site, plus they've made its first track "Wasting Time" available for free download!
Brooklyn band The Denzel's that Erika posted about in June here have a new EP out called 'Easy Tiger'. Their reps the excellent Low Life Inc sent it our way for review and I'm digging it! Great lo-fi garage rock and the lead singer's voice is ace! Check out the two tracks "Black Girls" and "Rae Rae" which they are offering as free downloads. The winners = us.

Garage music lovers I have a nice little treat for you today by the name of Alligator Indian. A trio that resides in NC. They sent us this great little number called "Honey Eye Bee Leave Ewe" that is a 2:15 min burst of energy. I'm 99.3% sure you will love it, especially if garage rock is your thing. Listen/download that baby below, then get to dancing!

In the mood for some excellent new experimental psychedelic indie surf rock? Well you are in the right place! Another Off The Radar brand new artist debut, Chicago based musician Body Wash recently released his debut Merdered EP. Raw, gritty, honest and quite brilliant, the Merdered EP is an amazingly solid first album, filled with layers of lo-fi goodness, fuzzy vocals and super catchy acoustic riffs, with that unmistakeably garage sound. The album in its entirety is available on his bandcamp as a name-your-price download, so you can pick it up for free, but as always we like to suggest you support the artists and send a few bucks their way for their efforts. Body Wash is definitely gonna be an artist to watch for in the future, and I have a strong suspicion that once this EP catches, its gonna spread like wild fire across the blog community. Enjoy these few tracks and video here, then head on over and check out/pick up the rest of the album.

Gotta say I am loving a lot of the new music coming out of my birth nation of Canada lately. The latest of which I recently stumbled on is Vancouver band Chains of Love. While I know the whole retro/throwback/surf-rock/garage-rock thing isn't exactly groundbreaking these days, this female fronted 6-piece pulls off that gritty 60's girl band sound so brilliantly, they almost reinvent it. Hell, they could have been right there with The Ronettes, the Shangri-la's or the Crystals! I just picture myself beach bound in a bright red '67 GTO Convertible listening to this on a fuzzy AM radio. I love it.

Big Wave Riders are a band from Helsinki, Finland formed in 2010, but who've known and played together in different projects for some time now. They recently contacted us and sent over their latest track "It's Funny Thing's Aren't Gonna Change". Great jangly indie rock jam! They are interested in music with a garage type energy with an electronic touch. I can hear those influences in their first single. They are planning on releasing an EP soon. We'll keep you updated on that, in the meantime we'd like to introduce you to the sounds of Big Wave Riders. Mighty fine!

Last year Old Wives' Tale featuring talented brother duo, Felipe / Jaime Valencia and Pablo Toro (originally from Bogota), spread their sound across Miami's music scene when their debut album 'Younger Limbs' was released. They played shows at all the cool local spots. In the summer they hoped on over to London to play, having won BVMA's Babelgum's Performance Video Award for " Amphetamine", then they performed at Madrid's Orange Café, Paris' Le Gibus and Barcelona's Sala Apolo.
A year and some months later they are back with their sophomore album 'Late-Night Paraphernalia' that is more sophisticated and adventurous than the first. This album, like the first is also guaranteed to make your head bop while doing a lil rock n' roll dance all your own. Completely opposite in their tones, Felipe and Jaime provide a very well put together brother dynamic that sets them apart from the rest. 'Late-Night Paraphernalia' includes tracks that range with a few different genre elements without losing a tight overall consistency and a continous punch.
These guys are serious about the quality of their music and are very detail-oriented which these days isnt always easy to come by with the plethora of sloppy bands out there. Being a perfectionist is something I can totally relate to!
I highly recommend you catching them live this Saturday, December 27th at Grand Central for their release party along with the premier of MR. X and Japanster, because when you hear them live you'll see how tight and energetic their sound really is!
If you've been to their shows before, you'll remember that the Old Wives' Tale yellow VW bus was always parked out front of the venues. This weekend it will be parked...well, you'll just have to go and find out!
Below are two of my favorites from Late-Night Paraphernalia for your streaming pleasure and their video for "15 Amphetamine". Are you dancing yet?! I know I am!

Sometimes, you just want to listen to music that doesn't require much brain power on your part. There's much to appreciate about simple, fun and upbeat music that has no hidden meaning behind it - it is what it is, and it makes you feel good for being just that. Toronto band First Base composes that kind of music perfectly with their garage-rock hits. She's Boy Crazy is their second 7" release, this time on Play Pinball! Records. Easy and energetic, these pop rock jams will stick in your head and have you jumping. Listen to I'll Be Your Hangover from their latest release and kiss your bad mood good-bye.

Care for a jog? Here's the video for The Drums latest single "Let's Go Surfing" being released Aug 16th on Moshi Moshi / Island. It's the catchiest track on their self titled debut record and along with album opener "Best Friend" one of my two faves. In addition here's a remix The Raveonettes did for the track in their trademark garage rock style. I like the original better, but it's pretty cool too. Enjoy!

Summer is fast approaching, and I don't know about where you all live, but here in Miami it's getting pretty damn hot and balmy. The way I see it, nothing is better on these lazy, hazy summer days than some good fuzzy lo-fi garage rock. Which brings me to New Jersey band Slow Animal, who have not only created some amazing 60's inspired surfer garage rock, but have also made their latest four track, self titled EP available to download for free in its entirety! So gear up for the sunny season and download a few of the tracks here then head over to Slow Animal's BandCamp site to get the rest! Bring on the fuzz, bring on the reverb and bring on the summer!

Keeping with the Canadian theme today appropriate since the Winter Olympics are taking place there now is hard hitting duo Japandroids. They will be releasing 5 limited edition 7' singles this year coupled with b-sides and covers. The first one is 'Art Czars' with a cover of Big Black's 'Racer-X' being released in April on Polyvinyl Records. Some great stuff! Heavy, but with melody in there as well. Really get's me pumped.

The Strange Boys really don't disappoint in their sophomore album Be Brave. These fine young gentleman from Austin had me in a whirlwind last year with The Strange Boys and the Girls Club, which I thought was one of the best rock albums of 2009. Now, with a new album being released on February 23, and a long tour ahead (with a few spots opening for Spoon!) maybe 2010 will be even more successful!
