Elusive Swedish band jj, who perhaps should have even been contending for the album-of-the-year list with their amazing, hit filled release jj nº 2, have somehow slipped our radar up till now. Having just signed with label Secretly Canadian, who also recently signed indie greats Yeasayer, jj are set to release their full length follow up jj nº 3 on March 9th, along with their first U.S. tour on the road with the xx!! Unfortunately for us here in Miami, no Florida stops as usual, but if you can shoot up to Atlanta March 23rd, or New York the 30th or 31st, it'd be well worth the trip! The xx is actually sampled, along with Charles Manson, Akon and various others, in a brand new track jj did for Swedish Radio called '5 minuter med jj'. It's quite possibly the raddest thing I have heard in a long time.

The Secretly Canadian signed Swedes has been blowing up the blog world like crazy with their latest single 'Let Them' and for good reason! Yes, this is a bit on the late side for us, but for those of you that haven't had the privilege of hearing it yet, how could we not post jj's new track?

Guitaro

Guitaro are a trio from Vancouver, Canada brought to our attention by the fine folks over at Crash Avenue. Seems they have been around since 97' but have somehow managed to slip off the radar for many years. I got sent their latest 2010 album 'JJ's Crystal Palace' and from the sound of this new record I don't think that will be unknown for too much longer. The album is stellar! A great record with elements of electro-pop, shoegaze and a dreamy haze that is pretty irrisistable. In particular loving "Come Get Sums", "2085", "Toothpaste", "Chateau 100", "Modulo" and "Make You", but really there's not a bad track on the album. I mean I just named 6 out of the 10 tracks. Check out "Come Get Sums" and "Chateau 100" cleared for posting. If you dig these I suggest you check out the rest of that album on their bandcamp page were it's available for purchase for $9. Think you guys are gonna love it. Bands like these are exactly the reason I do a music blog like OTR in the first place. With all the crap that's on mainstream radio it's bands like these that should be getting more recognition.

Lost is Great and All

Do NOT get me wrong. I'm a huge fan. But the opening theme song? Yeah the one note is all symbolic and creepy and crap but it could use a do over. 80's prime time drama style a lá Falcon Crest but not quite as good as Dynasty.

Side note, who psyched for tonight's season premiere? Honestly... Gooo WGA!! But the writers need to get back to finishing up the season. Seriously. 8 episodes filmed? Yeah, that'll get us through mid-March and THEN what?

Anyways, some friends and I refreshed our memory of season 3 this past weekend by watching a few episodes and I have heard of other friends doing similar. The biggest question I want answered is "What are those huge 4 toed feet statues? Or who?!?!" Was that even in season 3?

Did you guys know that (one of) the show's creators J.J. Abrams "composed" the main title theme? Music plays a key role in building up the suspense of the show and pop music also takes a roll of sometimes offering clues and sometimes adding to the mood of the charater. Nirvana's Scentless Apprentice, played right before Jack arrives to the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Parlor is a perfect example of both. I am impressed that this particular Nirvana song made it to prime time TV.
