LCD Killed MIA!

So as another fellow Miami music slut it's hard to think of anything else today other than last night's LCD show at the Fillmore which was unbelievable! There's been a lot of build up to last night, especially in the last couple of days while talking with enthused LCD fans. I haven't heard that much excitement from so many people for a show in years. Hmmm, probably because finally in years we have some great big acts coming to Miami!!!

I have seen them 4 times, in 03' at Soho Lounge in Mia during WMC, 04', 07' and this year's Coachella (reviewed here). I have to say last night's performance was the best for a couple of reasons. The sound that the band charged from the indoor stage was crisp, intense and perfectly loud. I could probably count on one hand the number of friends that weren't there, the rest were all there and had the same ecstatic responses, "They killed it", "Out of control", "Can't stop smiling", "Best concert"! They were solid from beginning to end and I couldn't have asked for a better show. Although because they are one of my favorite bands, I definitely wanted to hear more songs especially "New York, I love you", "Time to Get Away" and "All I Want" (listen below). I jumped up and down/danced the entire show and haven't been drenched in sweat at a concert like that in a long time and I'm a regular concert attendee, but then again this was LCD!

MP3: All I Want - LCD Soundsystem

I took both of these "Dance Yourself Clean" videos below on my iPhone which for the sake of being a camera on a phone, came out pretty good. They opened up with this song which was very befitting because the song starts out slow and really builds up in the most perfect way to the insanity that followed when the song dropped. I was hoping to hear them play this at Coachella but they didn't, however, last night totally made up for it! Now as far as the wobbling that's because I couldn't help moving my toosh which is why you'll see I stopped recording, couldn't sit still anymore.

My very talented/close friend wrote an exceptional (as always) review about last night's show in the Miami New Times, well worth a read!

Quick Looksie from Coachella: Jonsi

I apologize for the delay but I have been traveling a lot for work and play and I must say it's been a great month!

The last couple of weeks have been filled with great music. Between getting new music, seeing a lot of amazing performances and listening to new music in my ears constantly. I have been strongly reminded how powerful music is. Every day the music you choose to play acts as a soundtrack to your life. Just like you pick your own choices to create your life.
At least that's what I like to think...just makes sense.

On that note, I really wanted to share with you quickly before I have to run off for the night (stay tuned for Coachella and NYC music highlights) one of my favorite performances at Coachella - Jonsi.

Jonsi (from Sigur Ros) just recently released his first solo album, "Go" on April 5. Prior to seeing him at Coachella, I had listened to the album 3-4 times and liked the first couple of songs the best. "Liked" quickly changed to amazing, beautiful, and pretty much life changing after each song was played on that stage. The show was on Sunday from 5:55-6:45 at the Outdoor Theatre, which was the second biggest stage. The weather was starting to get cooler from a pretty warm day in the desert and I was with my Coachella crew from Miami whom I stayed and traveled with from L.A. They were a great crew because they all like myself appreciate music very much and that is so crucial on this kind of adventure. Jonsi came out wearing a very appropriate outfit that made him blend in seamlessly with the desert landscape, a shamanic Indian-kitsch outfit to be exact...so I've read.

With the start of the first song "Go Do" (first on album), hearing his angelic voice and the combination of the other instruments played with great melody, I just knew it was going to be a fantastic show. It was that and more. One of the best things about a show like this is looking around and seeing so many people smiling, dancing, or even just swaying a little bit in a small area and being able to see something so special. Some concerts you never forget how happy you felt at that time and place. This was definitely one of those for me...I still get goosebumps and a big smile on my face thinking about it. If you ever have the chance to see him, do it!

Here are two clips in the meantime to familiarize yourself with him if you haven't already. One from for the first song of the live performance "Go Do" and the other must be a new song because it's not on the album. I've listened to it already 8 times while writing this!

MORE BATHROOMS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE, BUT THE CONVERSTATIONS IN LINE WERE PRETTY MEMORABLE AND EASED THE BOREDOM OF WAITING.

NEVER ACTUALLY GOT A PIC OF SASHA OR DIGWEED CAUSE WE HUNG OUT AT THE OTHER END OF THE BOAT IN OUR LITTLE GROUP THE WHOLE TIME, BUT THE MUSIC WAS PRETTY SWEET! PERFECT FOR AN AFTERNOON BOAT RIDE. LOVED A FRANKIE KNUCKLES REMIX THEY PLAYED OF DEPECHE MODE'S NEW SINGLE 'WRONG'!!

ME AND DANNY WERE TRYING TO PUSH FOR SOME YACHT ROCK IN ANOTHER LEVEL OF THE BOAT FOR NEXT YEARS, BUT CARMEL TURNED IT DOWN FLAT :( REGARDLESS WE HAD FUN SINGING MICHAEL MCDONALD TUNES.

'SHOUT SWEET FREEDOM, SHINE A LIGHT ON ME' (MM)

ULTRA // SATURDAY

Cut/Copy made my WMC!!
Finally got to see my favorite album of 2008 performed LIVE and they did not disappoint! They sounded just as good or better than the record.

It was great to sing along to the lyrics and dance in the sun with a pretty sizeable crowd jumping up and down in unison.

It was also refreshing to see an act actually playing intruments. No laptops here. Only guitars, keyboards, drums, bass & melodies, beautiful melodies! Something sorely missing from many electronic acts.

After their set we got to see Cut/Copy in the artist lounge throwing around oranges like baseballs. (They had a ton set up on a table)

They were tired, but in good spirits after a long 14 month tour!

After Ultra the ONLY thing I wanted to do was go home, take a shower and relax,
which is exactly what I did!!

This guy (who seemed to work there) got a head start on me. Taking a nap right at the Festival!! Ha ha...

Here's a few tracks that remind me of the spirit/sound of WMC.

* Posted the In Flagranti Woolfie Remix a couple of weeks ago, but what the hey.. Andy Butler from Hercules & Love Affair played it about 20 mins after my set when he started his, so I figure it's a hot one!

See You Next Year WMC!
