Factory Floor :: 25 25

Found out about this really cool London duo Factory Floor today on the NPR podcast. Their song "Ya" from their upcoming album 25 25 reminds me of early 90's techno/acid music. Great minimal electronic track with pumping beats suitable for a sweaty dance floor near you. 

Their album 25 25 comes out next week (8/19) on DFA Records. You can pre-order it on iTunes.

Holy Ghost! :: New EP Crime Cutz + Neon Indian/Eli Escobar Remixes

It had been awhile since I heard some new music from NYC nu-disco duo Holy Ghost!, 2013 to be exact. Well today I was happy to get an email saying they will be releasing a new EP Crime Cutz later this week on the 29th of April via their long term label DFA. That definitely brought a smile to my face, especially the remix they sent our way of the title track "Crime Cutz" by Neon Indian. It is 7 1/2 mins of nu-disco heaven that can be played on a continual loop.

Holy Ghost! :: Dumb Disco Ideas

New Holy Ghost? Yes please! Having been released the day Daft Punk put their new album as a free stream on iTunes means "Dumb Disco Ideas" may have gotten lost in the shuffle, but it's a pretty sweet track. Their first new single from their upcoming album Dynamics which does not have a release date yet. Not too fond of the video (find it rather boring), but hey can't win them all. They will be on tour this year with the legendary New Order. Can't wait for the new album. For now check out this first one...

Care for some new Holy Ghost? Yes please! Today they released new single "It Gets Dark" and it continues their tradition of excellent dark, nu-disco sounds. Perfect for the dance floor as always. Shit Robot (DFA Records) + Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem/DFA Records) = Panties on the dance floor.

Shocking news, a DFA records act makes a dance floor ready sexified jam. I know, jaws are on the floor. Extra points for coining things like "from the cradle to the rave" and calling fans "shitheads".

Discodeine / Jarvis Cocker

A disco beat and Jarvis Cocker? Why didn't anyone think of this sooner? Just randomly ran into this track "Synchronize" ft Jarvis Cocker by Discodeine looking through Hype Machine the other day and I couldn't believe it. Nice dance beat with Jarvis' signature snarls make it even more interesting. Can't wait to play it out. Jarvis should totally look into doing a whole disco/dance record. I'm sure it would be excellent or maybe a Pulp reunion/album/tour? That would be even more amazing!

Bot'Ox

Bot'Ox are French electronic duo Julien Biffaz and Benjamin Boguet (aka Cosmo Vitelli and one half of Tekel). They seem to have a fascination with crashing cars. Most of their tracks feature titles like cars, motorcycles, crashes and now steel. In just five releases, Bot’Ox have cemented their place on the international scene with productions on prestigious labels such as DFA, DC recordings, Grand Central and their own label I’m a Cliché.

Following up their succesful single 'Crashed Cadillac' comes their newest musical twist in the form of 'Blue Steel' (haha Zoolander) feat vocals by Anna Jean and it is mighty fine! This new track is more on the poppy side with lots of vocals which I always love. They will be releasing their new EP also titled Blue Steel as a vinyl/digital release (which is really a glorified single) with b-side 'Bearded Lady Motorcycle Show' next week November 9th on their I'm a Cliche label.

The video for 'Blue Steel' is pretty sweet! Cars hitting things in slow motion. That's always fun. Be sure to check out their video for Crashed Cadillac on their myspace link above as well. YACHT

Yacht are a duo from Portland, Oregon. They have a lengthy explanation of what exactly they see themselves as on their myspace if you want to delve further.

They just put out and excellent new album called 'See Mystery Lights' on DFA last week. Been listening to it the last couple of days and digging it!

It's like the most indie artsy band I've heard on DFA. Their usually more straight up dance. Glad they put this out though, it's good for record labels to not get pigeonholed and just be known for one genre of music.

My favorite tracks so far are 'The Afterlife' and 'I'm in Love with a Ripper'. Sure you've heard 'Summer Song' too which is also quite good and apparently dedicated to James Murphy which first caught the label founders attention.

The first single from the album is 'Psychic TV' with an accompanying provocative religious themed video for it. Here is that plus my two fave tracks. Enjoy!
