Electroclash, remember that?
Probably not, especially you young-ins out there...
In the beginning of the decade electroclash was the label given to a slew of electronic artists with 80's new wave influences combined with their own new twists.
Artists as diverse as Ladytron, Adult, Fischerspooner, Soviet, Peaches, Chicks on Speed, A.R.E. Weapons, Mount Sims, Miss Kittin & the Hacker, Felix Da Housecat, etc...were all lumped together.
Of course like any genre that gets labeled they're almost always doomed to fail. At least the label given to them.
The best artists always seem to out-live the tags they are labeled with and continue to make great music.
Noticed this week that a bunch of the artists from that era are set to release new albums in the coming months. Peaches who's working with top producers/artists of the current electronic scene Soulwax & Simian Mobile Disco is putting out 'I Feel Cream'. Fischerpsooner 'Entertainment' and Miss Kittin & the Hacker who just released 'Two'.
De-ja-vu! Kinda made me feel like it was 2001 again...
So far the new tracks I've heard have been pretty good, but I wanna hold final judgement till I hear the whole albums.
See what you think of these...
