Broods :: Mother & Father

The other day as I was searching for new tunes I ran into this great track "Mother & Father" by New Zealand brother sister duo Broods. Such a powerful/emotional track about the pains of growing up and becoming your own person, got my attention quick. In addition to this new single they also have a self titled EP that you can check out with another solid track "Bridges".

Check out the soundcloud and video for those two below. Good to have you on our radar. Sure we'll be hearing more from them in the months/years to come.

Ruby Frost :: Water to Ice

What are the odds that we'd do back to back posts on New Zealand artists? Probably not that likely, but as I was setting up this latest post for Ruby Frost that's what I noticed. We previously wrote about Ruby last year here. Her new single/video for her track "Water to Ice" is pretty sweet anthemic type of jam. Check those out below, plus a remix of the track by Golden Age. Both free for the taking. Her debut album 'Volition' is scheduled for release in the next few months. Be on the lookout.

Zowie :: My Calculator (Video)

New Zealand electro-pop artist Zowie that we posted her new single "My Calculator" previously here just made a new video for the track that you can check out below. Real colorful poppy affair. This track totally reminds me of early 2000's electroclash, even has that trademark simple hand clap. Real stylish girl. Her debut album 'Love Demolition' is out now in New Zealand. Not sure when it'll be out for the rest of us, hopefully soon.

Zowie

22 year old New Zealand artist Zowie is making quite a splash in 2011 with her catchy pop sounds and gothy looks. Like a pop version of Siouxsie Sioux. You won't hear any complaints from me, one pretty lady. Check out her colorful video for "Broken Machine", plus an RAC mix for you to download below. You can also see her latest video for "Bite Back" which is a bit edgier on youtube here or on her site I linked above. Unfortunately the embedding was disabled on that one. Cheers!

Ruby Frost

Ruby Frost hailing from New Zealand is an up and coming artist that's showing a lot of potential! Her reps sent us her first track "Moonlight" and it is a great tune! Very catchy and pretty. Her vocals/music on this one reminds me of Bjork except a little poppier. Seems she does her own theatrical costumes and has tons of charisma. Something neccessary to make it to the top of the pop world. Chris Zane who produces bands like Passion Pit, The Walkmen and Mumford & Sons has signed on to produce her debut album which we should be seeing sometime in 2011. Things are looking bright for this lovely artist. Check her out before the masses do. Here is her "Moonlight" mp3 and video for you.

The Naked & Famous

Craving some more great new indie pop from down under? Then you are definitely gonna wanna check out New Zealand's The Naked & Famous. Their feel good and highly infectious single 'Young Blood', slightly reminiscent in style to the likes of Passion Pit, is a perfect fit for that end-of-summer nostalgia I'm sure a lot of you are starting to experience right now. It also comes complete with an equally excellent video featuring themselves having a damn good time being young and reckless.

The Naked & Famous will be releasing their debut album titled Passive Me, Aggressive You on September 26th, but, alas, only in New Zealand. So if you're a Kiwi, good news for you! Send a few copies our way will ya? In the meantime you can enjoy the vid and download 'Young Blood' from here as yet another excellent addition to this summer's soundtrack.

Golden Axe

Golden Axe is a quirky duo out of New Zealand who has quite the cult following. Chris Cudby and Daif Kent has expressed how they just want to be psychedelic travelers that make super saccharine , short super catchy, little songs.(Good goal) They've been known to refuse to play on stage, and rather bring the show outside the bars where the crowd all participate. This month they release their third album where you can download their single Free Time for only $1.50 Here . Too bad no U.S. tour yet, but you happen to be in New Zealand this month, do not miss this band live!

Here's a great cover of the very catchy Katy Perry's Hot N Cold

Lawrence Arabia

New Zealand never disappoints with fresh new music. A clear example of that comes in a package named Lawrence Arabia. Their album Chant Darling, finally released in the States yesterday, has been critically acclaimed in the U.K. as well as their native country New Zealand. Lawrence Arabia a.k.a James Milne has been donned with creating a near perfect pop album, which you can clearly see (listen to) in his infectious single Apple Pie Bed. However, don't rush into viewing the video if anyone around might get offended by different body types in their tighty whiteys . Fair warning. Enjoy!

Mint Chicks

Anybody else love it when visionary bands give fans a chance to voice their devotion through creativity? What I mean is, WHO DOESN'T LOVE A CONTEST?! New Zealand's Mint Chicks is providing you a chance to make their video for their new single "Bad Buzz". If cinematography is not your forte, then maybe design them a t-shirt? So you're not an artist and you don't have a video camera? Remix "Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!", or if you're more of a musician than a DJ, cover it! Each contest has a fitting prize, check it all out HERE!

Bang! Bang! Eche!

New Zealand
doesn't tend to send a whole lot of bands our way, but youthful dance punk sensation Bang! Bang! Eche! have really been gaining momentum outside of their little island nation down under.

The five member band defined by loud, thrashy guitars, synths, upbeat rhythms, and vocals which you could say are almost semi-rapped and mostly about partying deliver consistently high energy, high fun and highly danceable music.
The young Kiwi rockers have just released a fantastic brand new video for their song (You+Me) As Thick As Thieves, off their first self titled, self released album. They will also be releasing their follow up album Sonic Death Cuntttt this November, off which they have released the catchy first single Fist Full of Dollars.

Bang! Bang! Eche! has actually made their first, 5 track self titled EP available for free, which you can download HERE.
