Brika :: You

Miami's Brika (who we're big fans of) is back with another soulful single "You" being released this Friday (6/17). As the name implies the track is all about you, and how much you mean to her. Let us count the ways...

Check out the goodness below. We are told even more music is on the way, perhaps a new album?! Can't wait!

King

Ran into the silky smooth goodness of LA trio King the other day on NPR's best of SXSW Austin 100 playlist they put together every year. "The Greatest" was the tune I heard and I was blown away. Smooth on the level of Sade smoothness. Soo good! Three talented ladies. Apparently Stevie Wonder was in attendance at a recent concert and asked to collaborate. How amazing is that? Their debut album 'We Are King' is out now.

Check out their 8 bit video game inspired video for the "The Greatest" below, plus their latest video for new single "Carry On" which is excellent as well, and a wee bit trippy.

Brooke Forman :: Lioness Premiere

NYC's Brooke Forman is getting ready to release her Debut EP Lioness in March, but first thing's first. We are happy to be premiering her debut single "Lioness". A big sounding pop tune with beautiful melodies and her lovely voice shining through. A heck of a start for her! Can't wait to check out the rest of her EP.

Listen to "Lioness" below, as well as her excellent video for it directed by Arina Bleiman and Jesse Rosenblum. In it she takes a stroll through our lovely city of Miami, and it looks like she had a great time. If you like what you hear you can buy the track on iTunes.

Oh, Be Clever :: River

Really digging this soulful tune "River" sent our way by Salt Lake City duo Oh, Be Clever. The lead singer Brittney Shield's voice is so good. Keep pressing repeat. Check out the tune below which they are giving away as a free download in exchange for a follow. Sounds like a deal to me.

Autograf :: Dream

Our buddy Autograf who we've posted a couple great remixes from before here, sent us his latest track "Dream", which also happens to be his first original track! It is a great soulful down-tempo track that I can play over and over. Very promising start!

Check out the goodness below...

Long Beach City Kids :: Takin' Over

Ran into this original jam the other day by Long Beach City Kids called "Takin' Over". Another happy go lucky tune that will help you forget about the crumby weather we are having today in the MIA. Great soulful house track which is being offered as a free download. I'd grab that sucker if I was you. Enjoy & have a great weekend!

The Lovers Key :: Do You Still Think of Me? (Ursula 1000 Remix) Premiere

The Lovers Key are a new indie pop/soul duo from South Florida featuring Christopher Moll of The Postmarks fame and Maco Monthervil. They are getting ready to release their debut album 'Here Today Gone Tomorrow' April 1st on Room Records which will be available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

Before that and to coincide with WMC this week in Miami, they got NYC's totally awesome Ursula 1000 to remix their track "Do You Still Think of Me?" into a dance jam which we are happy to premiere today on OTR!

Check out that remix below, as well as the album's opening track "Saturday Night" to get you acquainted with their excellent soulful sound. Then don't be an April Fool and grab this excellent release next week.

Ben L'Oncle Soul :: Hallelujah !!! (J'Ai Tant Besoin De Toi)

There ain't nottin' wrong with a lil bit of funky soul. Ben L'Oncle Soul's "Hallelujah !!! (J'Ai Tant Besoin De Toi)" is one of those songs that makes you channel the godfather of soul on the dance floor. The soulful Frenchman is definitely someone to watch out for.

The 2 Bears :: Be Strong

The 2 Bears is a band from London. Their music is chill and has a groove that is a mixture of soul, lo-fi and house. The band is actually composed of Joe Goddard (of electronic band Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell.

The band was also supposed to include Joe Mount from Metronomy, but due to issues he could not become part of the band. Instead, the band went from The 3 Bears to The 2 Bears. Either way, enough reading. You guys are here for the music.

Sample the Goods. Here's the whole album 'Be Strong' for you to listen to.

Spiritualized :: Sweet Heart Sweet Light

In keeping with the soulful theme of Soulsavers I wanted to post about another great album that came out recently Spiritualized latest 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light'. The amazing Jason Pierce has another winner on his hand. First single "Hey Jane" is pretty upbeat and dancey, prob the happiest I've heard him in a long time. For me Spiritualized is an acquired taste, I kinda have to be in the right mood to enjoy him and it seems like this one came out at the right time as I'm really digging it.

Check out a couple tracks from the record first single "Hey Jane" and "Little Girl" below, but it was hard to choose cause there's a bunch of great ones. "Too Late", "I Am What I Am" and "Mary" are also top notch. An album best heard in it's entirety really. If you like what you hear you can buy the whole thing on Amazon for $5. A bargain I say.

Soulsavers ft Dave Gahan :: The Light The Dead See

The new Soulsavers album 'The Light The Dead See' was recently released and it features one of my all time favorites Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode handling vocal duties. I got the record and am mightilly impressed. Real soulful record. It's nice to hear Dave singing in a bit of a different style than the usual DM style. Check out "Longest Day" and "Presence of God" below. You can sample/buy the album on Amazon or iTunes.

Avan Lava :: It's Never Over

Avan Lava is a project from NYC ft lead singer TC (Tom Hennes) and producers/musicians Le Chev (Narcisse, Fischerspooner) and Ian Pai (Blue Man Group, Fischerspooner). They sent along their upcoming EP Flex Fantasy scheduled for release February the 21st and I am mightily impressed! A great mixture of soul and nu-disco that is pretty irrisistable and will surely get many booties shaking it on the dance floor. The first single from the EP is "It's Never Over" that you can check out below as well as a little video clip for it. If this one doesn't get you pumped for some weekend dancing, I'm not sure what will. Best part is it's a freebie! Grab that sucker!

33 HZ :: Under The Sun

33 HZ are a NYC duo that merge the lines between disco and soul. That is particularly evident in their latest single "Under the Sun". Nice chill down-tempo goodness. They managed to enlist the help of the one and only Prins Thomas to do a remix of the track who totally changed it up into more of his trademark nu-disco sound with a jazzy piano twist at the end. You can grab both those tracks via the soundclouds below as free downloads. Perfect start to your weekend. Be on the lookout for a new full length album from 33 HZ in the fall.

Alexander :: A Million Years Video/Single

Just saw the new Alexander (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) video for "A Million Years" off his self titled solo debut album. Happy earthy video, put me in a good mood. Thought I'd share. I also found his soundcloud were you can download the track for free. Win! Album mp3's out now on Amazon for only $5. If you like his Edward Sharpe stuff chances are you'll dig his solo work too. Earthy, folky, rythmic music. Good for the soul.

Diamond Doves

I have found music to be kind of stale over the last few weeks and kind of abandoned my new music search in favor of my go to favorites like The Faces on Pandora Radio. After feeling like my neglect was getting out of control, I was persuing one of my go to music blogs (RCRD LBL) and came across this track 'Club Night' by Diamond Doves. A menacing arrangement just over four minutes including a horns, violins, guitars, vocal harmonies as well as effects, and increasingly intense drums. This is a track best listened to loud to fully appreciate its sonically vast landscape of influence and expression. Their bio is just as intense as the music and therefore not easily foot noted so head to their myspace and read up on this eclectic group. I don't find Diamond Doves to be stale (at all).

The Mean

I cannot stop listening to The Mean's second album 'Zero Zero'. This five piece based out of Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York has concocted a beautiful collection of soulful and eclectic songs. The band had been playing together in different projects and decided to form The Mean in 2006. Their sound is blues tinged, organic rock and roll. Teetering between convivial and haunting the three vocalists always keep the sound focused and funky. They maintain a collective attitude towards writing and their DIY recording process, which has resulted in a collaboration rich with influences. Reminds me of my favorite Eric Clapton band Derek and the Dominoes. Fans of the Black Keys will definitely dig The Mean. Check out my two favorite tracks "Dragon Blues" and "Ghost Witness" below. You can also stream 'Zero Zero' in its entirety on their website before buying it. They're playing some gigs in the North East this March including a March 14th date in Boston, and at The Living Room in NYC on March 15th.

Breakbot

French electronic artist Breakbot just released his debut single "Baby I'm Yours". An homage to the new disco/funk/soul sound many artists such as Jamie Lidell, The Generationals, and Mayer Hawthorne are messing around with these days.

Breakbot is on board the Ed Banger Records team out of Paris alongside dance heavies Justice, Uffie, Mr. Oizo, DJ Medhi, and more. Some of the Ed Banger cats will be down in Miami for WMC if you wanna check them out.

Here's the track...easy to dedicate to someone if you wanna have a hallmark moment.

The Phenomenal Handclap Band

What's that thing they tell brides they need for their wedding day? "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue"? Well that's how I would describe the sound of NY's The Phenomenal Handclap Band. It has that soul/funk element that makes you want to move your feet with just a little hint of psychedelic guitars. Plus the microphone is never reserved to just one vocalist which brings a freshness to every track. Their integrity as musicians resonates in their sound. They just put out a really captivating video for the song "Baby" (below). RCRDLBL premiered an Architeq Dub remix that takes this track to a whole other level with it's electronic interpretation of this sexy love song.
